What is better?

Free DLC, but microtransactions

OR

Paid DLC, but no microtransactions?

Seeing as the paid DLC in Halo 4 died off very quickly, I’ll go with the former.

Free dlc with optional micro transactions.

If you choose not to microtransact the game is still playable.

If you choose not to buy paid DLC then every one is at atleast some degree of disadvantage. The people who bought it don’t get to use it much, and the people who didn’t will complain about how boring the game is without new maps while steadfastly refusing to pay for more maps when they already bought the game.

Pretty much this.

I can live with microtransactions due to how mild/fair they are to earn through ingame means. I’ve been in enough games where the concept is truly full of crap. This is much more livable.

My only beef with them is that Gold Packs award uncommons (by extension, gungeese), if it weren’t for those, I’d have no issue with them whatsoever.

The way Halo 5 did microtransactions is the only way you can do them right I think. Also just as a side note, 343I doesn’t call there monthly updates DLC, they call them updates. DLC has been, for the most part something that has to be bought aka like Map Packs. 343I really avoids using the term DLC you’ll notice.

As what’s better between the two, well in theory anything free should be… but if you were to say ask people “get 5 new developer made maps in warzone for 10 bucks” and/or “5 new developer arena maps for 10 bucks” how popular do you think that would be? I think it would be very popular. The thing it comes down too is what can 343I/MS make more money on. It would seem they can make more on the system they have now, but are we the fans getting better content because? That is very debatable.

Seeing how 343 has done this so called “free dlc” in Halo 5, I’d have to go with payed dlc. Some people will use Halo 4 as an example of how paid dlc killed the game, but to be honest, Halo 4 was garbage in general. Even free dlc wouldn’t have saved that game.

The way I see it, paid dlc actually gives us new, good quality maps. The “free dlc” that we’ve gotten in Halo 5 has mostly been remixed maps, Forge maps, and features and game modes that we’ve always had from the beginning. So in reality, setting aside the things we’ve gotten back that were in previous Halos, we’ve only really gotten remixed maps and a bunch of armor, weapon, and vehicle variants that we have to grind away at the game for or pay them more money to even use.

I would prefer to just have a good game at launch that would justify having any DLC in the first place.

People using halo 4 as an example for DLC gone wrong lol. Let’s just ignore the hundreds of cases across gaming where it’s been phenomenal and worth the price tag.

Implying dlc has to be multiplayer map packs as halo has historically done. What if, say, a beast mode like gears of War 3 was dlc? I’d be all. Over. That.

Even in halo 3 it split the community up into haves and have-nots. It’s done that in every game I’ve played that has paid DLC.

Refer to my second post. It has the problem of division, sure, but it doesn’t always do it. The quality of dlc is what matters.

DLC should be free…DLC was predominately free on PC…and now for some reason ever since games prices were raised to 59.99 it is a thing to capitalize on DLC instead of making a great game and then adding content based on the positive feedback the game received or what the fans say…This “season pass” extravaganza is starting to become a little ridiculous…I mean a 59.99 games should come loaded with unlockable content…But these days games come with content being held back for DLC the -Yoink- is disgusting…Paid DLC or paying for DLC is frowned upon in my book…Because you are not really playing the full game unless you fork over some dough…Under no circumstances should I have to go to a retailer and have the option to buy part of a game…It should be 59.99 with the season pass and 39.99 without the season…pass and then if the game was that great maybe a few months after they should start developing content later as expansions and “season passes” this is one of the most infuriating things I have come across these days “season passes” in place of what was once known as unlockables…The cellphone gaming industry has took it’s toll on the console gaming industry because games are seemingly stripped of content and sold as incomplete like they are doing you a favor when they are simply just taxing you…When I preordered HALO 4…I was in shock going to the gamestop register to see a paper with the season pass as an option…Mostly because the content was already there and prepared and not available to play at launch…On original xbox if I am not mistaken dlc was something special like a free thing on most games as an extra until Halo 2 came out and it became an uproar when it was announced that the DLC had to be purchased and the bnet forums were flooded with DLC should be free threads…I don’t really agree with either but I guess since they are updates it’s fine…Because the maps are free. So I will go with the first.

A complete game is best

Definitely this. Free DLC is epic, and micro transactions, well, they aren’t required. No reason to complain.

Paid DLC with no micro-transactions. If the game is full on release, and adds new content in DLC, I’d pay for some more. H4 died off in a month, did you people really expect people to buy the DLC? Every other game works with it, but 4.

Free with optional.
Comminity stays whole
Dev still gets paid (possible even more)
Win-win
