What is actually wrong with the pistol IMO

I have seen a lot of people on here complaining about the pistol, but nobody who shares the same opinion as me, so I thought I’d create my own topic.
In Reach they did a magical thing to the pistol which was to add bloom to it. This meant that most people would spam shots from their new super fast pistol, then come onto the forum to complain about how none of their shots were landing because of this new bloom business. Little did they know they could just wait for the bloom to go down after each shot and they basically spawn with a DMR in their pocket. This resulted in the pistol having a huge skill gap ranging from people who didn’t even consider using it to people who could just about take out a DMR if they timed their shots well.
In Halo 5 they have capped the firing rate to the point where the bloom has gone and now the only way to use it is the correct, slower and more accurate way. This has resulted in the skill floor being raised without the ceiling moving, a much smaller skill gap. It used to be that people who timed their shots properly could basically use the pistol as a primary weapon, but now everyone can.
Selfishly I preferred the old way because I used to destroy, now everyone else has gotten better but I’ve stayed the same. Boo Hoo, Cry cry :’(
Seriously though, this isn’t a complaint. I’m really loving Halo 5, I’m just wondering if anyone else has noticed this?

TL;DR: The pistol isn’t any more powerful or accurate, it’s just easier to use now it doesn’t have bloom.

Edit: I’m not saying I want the pistol to change, I like the challenge of playing against people with this new pistol and it feels great! I’m just surprised that not many people have noticed that the bloom control is pretty much the only change.

Bloom was bad in H:R and its bad now, its a random mechanic and has no place in halo

The pistol is fine the way it is, everything is balanced to near perfection (as perfect as it can be taking smartscope into consideration)

OMG did you just say that having Bloom takes more skill?

No. Nooo. Nooooooooo.

I don’t like the weapon smart-link sight. I much prefer the Halo 4 sights. I also prefer the sound from Halo 4 that it makes. Its not a bad weapon though. I guess I just need more practice with it.

Bloom sucks. If im losing a gunfight I can just spam my shots and maybe the gods of randomness will bless me with a win. Thats not exactly conducive to skill.

Yep, that sums that up.

The H1-4 aiming mechanic is superior in every way in my opinion and needs to return for H6 but thats just me
Also, the current controller issues with massive deadzones in the controller make aiming a frustrating experience at the moment especially with the pistol (I find)

I understand what your saying but I don’t think you meant to included 4 because 4 has no descope which is bad. You just want a scoped zoom rather than what 343 is now using.

I think it’s mostly ok, but sometimes it doesn’t feel as if I’ve done everything right yet something random goes wrong, like my aimer will travel too fast.

flinch/descope is a completely seperate mechanic from aiming
Flinch was horrible and broken and I am glad its been banished never to (hopefully) return again

The aiming/zoom from H4 was just like it was from H1-H:R none of this aim down the weapon stuff
click the aim stick and zoom in via holographic uplink

Smart-Scope is the worst. All it does is add an animation, which slows the game down and contradicts the canon of Halo. Spartan’s always had Zoom. It was part of the technology in the suit, and made a lot more sense than Smart-Scope. I don’t know how anyone could think Smart-Scope makes the game more fun. I enjoyed the Halo 5 campaign, but that was something that bothered me the whole time. I play with Recon controls, so I used it the same as when I’d used Zoom in previous games. This made it a little better than it otherwise would have been, but it was still less fun than using regular Halo Zoom. I’ve been saying this for a few years now, but it seems all FPSs are eventually going to become the same game one day. Where is the variety? Halo was fun as it was. I’m fine with evolution. I’m fine with change. We need change. It’s something that makes me proud to be a Halo fan. It’s not the same game year after year, but if we’re going the way of things like ADS (don’t deny that’s pretty much what it is) then the game will start to lose what makes it Halo, what gives it the specific sense of fun that Halo has. 343i needs to go back to the first five games (4 is good too, but I’m not including for reasons) and play them in their original graphics with their original audio. Play the games and focus on the gameplay, what makes them fun, what makes them different, and what makes them Halo.

It’s just something else to think about isn’t it? Something else to learn to master and use to your advantage. It’s about knowing which firing rate is appropriate for the range, which is just one of the many things I’d take into account when in a pistol fight on Reach. Of course it’s a skill.

You guys understand all the ADS does is make it slightly easier at long range. Close range you still shoot like you used too. Or you will lose/miss shots.

Sure if it worked how you think it’s supposed to. The problem is though you can pace your shots for accuracy I can fire mine as fast as possible I have a chance to beat you because the Bloom/Spread is random. This is what make Bloom unfair the randomness. It doesn’t matter with bloom how careful you are because someone can spam the trigger and beat you.

Playing with bloom is about eliminating the randomness. You have to fire your gun at the right rate for the shots to land every time. 99.9% of the time someone spamming the magnum will lose to the guy doing slow calculated shots.

I never got that. Slow controlled shots would win almost all shootouts for me. Sure you have a chance at winning by spamming but I have a much much higher chance at winning by taking my time. I see what you mean in theory, but in practice I never found this happening to me.

Which would be fine if your above statement is true, problem is though that it isn’t. You have probably close to or better than 50% odds of winning a firefight with Bloom introduced.

Smart link sight is nothing more than a holo lens scope which is 10x better than the scopes in prior Halos which severely limited what you could see while in scope. You may prefer the limited round scope, but the holo lens scope is superior as it allow for more field of view.

I’d say I had an 85% chance of winning with bloom, and now it feels more like 50%, but that’s just personal preference.
Besides, Weather it’s skillful or not isn’t really the point that I was trying to make. I was just saying that the only difference between this pistol and the old one is the fact it doesn’t have bloom any more. It’s not any more powerful or accurate, it’s just now everyone is forced to use it properly. It was more a counterpoint at the people asking for a nerf.

Not if you don’t miss LOL bloom should be in every shooting game because it is realistic… you don’t just hold down the trigger and expect the spread to be the same. as when you pace and aim each shot.
