What is a "Mantis"?

Seriously guys, who uses these things? Since the new hot topic about vehicles being “just fine” iv read a lot of comments from people and noticed that everyone seems to be concerned about the Mantis. Its just far to underpowered i’v made a list of issues i’v came across and in hopes to give it a slight buff in the next update with your support and feedback!

Issues:

  • The Shoulder Charge Counter - Brought to my attention by a good friend, on foot Spartans can shoulder charge an active mantis which causes it to face the front for a moment. This can allow players to easily set the mantis position for boarding and it just all round annoying and kind of broken. - The Turret Spread - Not only is the turret incredibly weak, it can barely hit anything! The spread is that drastic it feels more of a suppressing weapon than anything worth the effort of pressing the trigger for. Compared to the warthog turret its petty and considering its higher req value it just doesn’t seem worth it. - Nurf Rockets? - Same as the turret, a few times now i’v locked onto banshees and hit all my shots and it just barely scratched it! - The Stop is weak - For the time it takes to use the stop its not worth the result! The mantis feels light, more like a battle suit than an entire mech! It was the only real counter to being boarded! - Board-able from all directions - This is kind of frustrating, you stomp to kill your incoming attacker and of course it fails, they don’t even need to make an effort to get behind you they just do an awkward flying ninja manoeuvre to your back and boom thats it! With this games OP boarding system, its almost impossible to save your teams mantis from being destroyed.The mantis isn’t terrible but its just not worth the Req points or effort to use it? Would love more feedback to add to the list here guys!

Agreed! I have barely used them because of their cost to efficiency ratio… They are really weak and easy to destroy honestly.
Personally, I barely use the stomp: in the occasion that an enemy is near, its probably because they are in the action of planting a grenade or hyjacking it.

The mantis is really a more campaign vehicle and doesn’t fit in as much into warzone (my opinion)…

I think that Mantises would be worth the REQ points if you were ejected when boarded like the Halo 4 survivor perk. If you’re really good with a Mantis you can cause some good amounts of damage, but most of the time you’re just spawning in a free death for yourself.

They should make the mantis stop kill any Spartans in a 3-to-5 -foot range. Once they make the rockets and mantis stomp more powerful…then the mantis will finally become a machine to fear.

If they had the rockets not all fire at once it would bring it from a 3/10 to a 6/10.
It’s a good suppression vehicle in truth and if you’re a team player it’s great especially in CTF in BTB but as an assault vehicle… A scout warthog is at least hard to board.

Some how they managed to make the Spread random on certain Mantises. For example, if you want a Mantis with tight bloom, the Regular, Corp and Urban Mantises all have tight spread. The others will bloom very fast.

Mantis needs a serious buff… yeah the oni mantis is kinda good and the Hannibal mantis is awesome. Besides the Hannibal mantis I bet I would kill every mantis in H5 with the H4 version. The H4 mantis was a monster… don’t know why the nerfed it so much.

I think that they nerfed it so much because with the req system it became way easier to obtain one

I honestly love the mantis the way it is…it is so easy to board…or die…one or the other…

Not really. It has a pretty high req level for how weak it is.

A mantis is a bug silly. Easy to smash.

My Company had a good chat about this, would be great to have an eject perk, if your vehicle was critical or if your boarded you eject? would be a little OP maybe but still fun!

I personally believe the Mantis should be unboardable. Just that one change would make it vastly more viable.

Agree you should be able to still shoot while you you stomp? that would prevent that sort of thing? The unique thing about the mantis is its multi tasking capability, they need to make it fully functional in this area!.

Or just more effort to be boarded. It should only be board able from the rear and the animation should take longer, like you have to open the hatch, plant the granade and them its destroyed. Its almost impossible in this game to aid a boarded team member, it feels like it take far too long to pop them while boarded! If they brought back the 3 step like in Halo 3 it would be more balanced, Board, Open hatch, Plant.

Probably because we don’t have jetpacks. The H4 mantises were beasts, but were weakest against opponents wearing jetpacks because they could easily avoid the stomp and board from the back.

I take mantis into armories. Lol so funny. So worth 6 reqs. But I also have over 250 of them so yeah.
