What in the world is going on here?

I’ve been looking over the footage in the new vidoc, and something has left me very confused. It might not seem that important, but I would appreciate some more opinions on the matter, as I believe it could be very important if we could figure this out. SLIGHT SPOILERS FOLLOW

Below is a collection of images from about 3 seconds of video. I would like to the video directly, but too much happens in such a short amount of time.

Notice how one Phantom is flying upward, toward what appears to be a portal. Also notice that the other one is flying straight at it at a high speed. We can also see another ship flying towards the portal at the top.

The Phantom that was flying straight toward the other one hits it, and causes an explosion. Neither look too damaged afterward, thought that might be because the game wasn’t finished at that point.

Observations noted on the second picture. The first picture is a clearer verision taken at a slightly different time, but it reveals something else. A ship entering the portal. We can clearly see thrusters in the back, and it clearly enters the portal, which just arouses more questions.

Again, observations noted. These might be debris from the Phantoms, but one randomly appears a good deal away from the Phantoms. Strange indeed.

We never actually see that Phantom that rammed the other one crash, it is POSSIBLE that who ever was in it survived, and helps us through the rest of the mission. But it’s also slightly unlikely that someone could survive that, unless they ditched the Phantom before it crashed or no one was even in it.

Okay, this picture is even more unexplainable. This happens after the pictures above, we can tell because because one of the Phantoms dropped a Ghost before it exploded, which just happens to be what Chief is in now. Nothing that I could see ever touched this Phantom, it just crashed. But it’s also quite possible that whatever caused the crash was not in this picture. Whatever happened, Phantoms appear to be dropping like flies in this mission.

Thanks to The Fated Fire we now have clearer pictures, which reveal that it does not take place on a Halo ring. But they also reveal some other things, which are noted above. There’s also the whole thing with the portal.

This may all sound like not a big deal at all, but I pass my time spent waiting for Halo 4 by trying to figure out the story, and seeing how close I am when the game comes out. So I would appreciated some opinions on this, as I’m stumped.

Ah yes, someone agreed with the Halo thing. Now to figure out what Prometheans are doing there and which Halo ring it is for sure.

The portal does look like the one in the 2nd Anniversary Terminal… the one that held a Halo ring.

And it is widely assumed that there will be a ring featured, if the main menu art means anything.

Below the portal, it seems to be that Chief is standing near the edge of the ring.

That and Chief shows up in orbit near the Halo ring in the vidoc. Things are definitely pointing in that direction.

I don’t think that is a halo ring, I think that is just a light source for the planet inside Requiem.

doesnt look anything like that to me im not seeing it.

A possibility, but I have a hard time explaining the markings on it that aren’t on the rest of the background.

To clear things up, I’m talking about this. Chief appears to be near the outer edge of a Halo, as in he’s still on it.

What if the Forerunners or the Covenant activate the Halo rings!?!?!?
And those strange objects were escape pods leading into the teleporter that maybe leads to Requium.
And since there were Phantoms in the sky and possibly in the way of the escape pods, the Forerunners activated an EMP.
And so Chief is using the Ghost that fell out of the Phantom to rush to a pod or find some other way to get to the portal.

Actually, my theory is that the Halo ring was activated, but on a low setting, Hence the unconscious MC in the vidoc.

I would guess that this scene takes place ON a Halo ring, and that the ridge in the background is the wall of the ring, meaning that this environment would be really close to the ring’s edge.

Giant disco ball entering requiem and blinding all the phantom pilots.
That’s my theory and I’m sticking to it.

Portal 1
This picture reveals that this portal is not above a Halo. The orange designs can still be seen above that white beam of light (the orange circle completes above the line). This leads me to the conclusion that the portal is inside Requiem.

Portal 2
Draw your attention to the edge of the portal. You can clearly see one of the ships you have pointed out in the OP. You can even see two square white lights on the ship.

Portal 3
Look inside the portal. The mysterious ship has now almost entered the portal.

Portal 4
A better view of the Phantoms crashing.
