I was playing BTB on Ragnarok. I’m in the Mantis with 10 kills and no deaths, looking good for getting a perfection, and all of a sudden I get the dreaded black screen we’ve all come to know and hate. A bunch of time goes by, a couple of people on my team have quit and are replaced (even though supposedly that isn’t supposed to happen this late in the game), I see lots of shuffling in the score list, and when the game finally starts up I’m respawning in the middle of the map.
I’ve been killed in a perfectly healthy Mantis while I’m looking at a black screen. Shortly after I respawn I’m killed by a Banshee, at which point I quit. I should have quit during the black screen.
These black screens are bad enough, but the fact that when the game resumes I am often not in the state I was in when they started and I can get killed while waiting for the game to resume is patently unacceptable. How can a game company that supposedly has so much fine, talented people write something this bad?
They need to worry more about stuff like this than making X’s red when people die. Don’t expect me to play a game where I can get killed while I can’t play. This is beyond stupid.

Happened to me in Reach as well as Halo 4. That’s why I’ve pretty much stopped playing all online MP except for maybe the occasional customs with friends.
This is why Microsoft needs to stop being cheap and get Dedicated Servers for one of their flagship titles…

Whether that would help prevent the black screen thing or not, what has me so frustrated at the moment is that if a game pauses it should resume in the exact same state when it resumes. You shouldn’t be dead if you were healthy, you shouldn’t be in a different place or even looking in a different direction. The game should pause and then resume from the exact same point.
I had full health and full in a Mantis that wasn’t even smoking while using the Wheelman perk and there were no enemies near me or firing at me. There’s no way I should have been killed during the black screen.

I was JIPd this very last game…into Exile, other team 510, my team 30…I quit instantly!
