Though we don’t have too much information on the conflicts between the two species, we have a general idea of what went on between the Precursors and the Forerunners.
Precursors make Forerunners and other species; Precursors want to do something bad/erase Forerunners(don’t know too much about that part); Forerunners rise up and kill most Precursors; Precursors created the Flood. We don’t know too much else, and forgive me if something was incorrect there or forgotten.
Anyway, to the point of the thread: What if you, as Master Chief, have to choose between the two in Halo 4? It would result in a completely different campaign either way. You would have to take a side, and Switzerland isn’t an option because the Precursors obviously have plans for Humanity. The Forerunners, who rose up to save themselves, or the Precursors, who, though created the Flood, full intentions and motives have yet to be revealed. Obviously, there would have to be a canonical storyline, too.
Me personally, I don’t even know if this could be remotely possible, or if it sounds like an awful, stupid idea in general(If you think that, I understand :). But I thought it would be a cool thing to post. What do you think? And whose side would you choose based on the information at hand?
I don’t really support it because wouldn’t that mean that the entire Reclaimer Trilogy would have to feature this system? I like a solid story, and, in my opinion, I dislike making choices for the character to make him feel more like “yourself”. It’s just a dumb concept to me, canon would be turned upside down, and I don’t think it belongs in Halo.

I respect that.
I don’t know who I’d agree with, really.
Though the Forerunners wiping out a race seems harsh, I’d like to point out they warred only one Precursor race (there are many seperate races, like the Covenant, but less religious) and the Primordial says “those who created you were hunted down; some escaped” implying a Precursor civil war. Therefore, not all Precursors are bad.
Both races of good intentions, but “the path to Hell is paved with good intentions.” Prcursors want to create the perfect species to nurture all life peacefully, but to do so, in at least the Primordial’s eyes, requires the Flood.
Forerunners want to protect life, but do so wth an iron fist.
So with that said, I’d side with the guys least likely to kill me, which is the Forerunners, or the other “good” Precursors.
And this is all theoretical by the way. Like poster 1, I prefer a solid story. Mass Effect was ruined for me because they had too many possible stories that distracted from one another and made each one feel less special. And like poster 1, making the character “feel like you” is a stupid concept in my eyes.
While the Mass Effect route may have been nice if the series started out with it, Halo has kept a pretty solid canon for it’s universe. If they choose to suddenly let the player decide major events, it makes other mediums much harder to work with in the Halo universe, such as with the novels. The only way a novel could work around such a system is by either selecting a certain option, essentially telling anyone who chose differently that they are wrong, or making it a choose your own adventure book.

I actually prefer that type of story line, too; I just thought it was an idea to post here.
ummmm I would have to side with the Precursors because they would appreciate my name

They probably would. Hey, didn’t I add you as a friend on Xbox the other day?
