What if the Great Journey was real and the Covenant was right?
…Are you kidding?
What the Covenant called the Great Journey was a total misconception of the Halo Array firing, and the Forerunners leaving the galaxy. 343 GS said so himself. I think Mendicant Bias said so as well, but I’m not sure.
The great journey is real. We just don’t know what it is.
Didact said they went on it after they fired the Halo rings. (H3 terminals)
In which terminal does he say this?
You should know that any religion is false.
Except the Flying Spaghetti Monster exists, and he loves all.

Though I’m sure it has no connection to the religious beliefs.
Just watch terminal 11 from H:CEA. The way the monitor reacts to it is quite funny.

I can’t be bothered to look it up, but it was one where Didact was talking to the librarian he says something along the lines of “The array will be lit, and you will be left behind while we commence the great journey.”
I think it’s interesting how the Forerunners had their own Great Journey, hence showing it wasn’t exactly a sham (which I thought forever), but just the way the Prophets presented it. I wonder what it is… I really wanna find out- there’s so much we still don’t know…
The great journey isn’t real, Guilty Spark said that it was meant to wipe out everyone.
The Forerunners are said to have left the Orion arm of the galaxy. The great journey the Didact spoke of could just be simply the journey of moving to another arm of the galaxy. All Forerunner worlds are said to be in the Orion arm, moving to another arm and starting over would definitely be a great journey. It was just mis understood by the Prophets.
“Those who built this ring knew what they wrought. Do not mistake their intentions, or all will perish as they did before.”
-Gravemind
Yea there is definitely something, the Didact mentions going on the journey without the Librarian in his last messages to her. They most likely meant going into another universe or something through the shield world.
The Didact did say the Great Journey would begin involving the Halo Array. The Covenant completely misunderstood what this meant, they believed the Forerunners transcended through the Rings. The Forerunner’s Great Journey was completely opposite, most were killed and those that survived would have been in a bad situation of shame and sorrow.

When you first saw Halo were you blinded by it’s majesty? Paralyzed, dumbstruck, flabbergasted?
Take Didact literally. IIRC, shield worlds move like the rings do - usually to stabilize, but travel is possible.
Keep in mind, humanity has barely even begun to translate the Forerunner language. Some words are translated based on the reader’s own experiences, either because that’s the closest we can translate it as right now, or sometimes because it was designed that way.
So, when the Terminal said “Great Journey”, it’s possible that was just translating a word or phrase pertaining to activating the Halo array, since we don’t have a proper word for it like they evidently do.

If you read the terminals though the words that are substituted are in orange and the rest is in yellow. Great Journey is in yellow, and capitalized (which is weird), but false trancendence is in orange. So that is where the covenant misinterpretation comes from. However from what I understand the terminals substitute words for the reader. So humans get false trancendence while the covenant may have gotten another word for it and took it as trancendence.
But either way it actually seems that the Forerunner tech makes the translations for the reader. So the great journey is there, I just don’t think it had anything to do with the rings. Unless of course the Forerunners dieing is their “great journey”.

Pasta be upon him.
I always thought the Great Journey meant the firing of the Halo rings and killing all the forerunners, causing a great number of forerunners to journey into the afterlife.
