What if we get an expanded beta instead of delay?

I think 343 needs all the time they can get, especially with coronavirus setbacks. While other developers have shifted their release dates numerous times, 343’s hands are tied since they must launch beside the Series X.

Instead of a hard delay, maybe we could get an expanded beta program day and date with Series X. We’d still get to play Halo Infinite in November as originally planned, only we’d be more forgiving about the flaws since it’s clearly a work in progress. Technically, it counts as a day one launch title but since it’s a beta no one can complain about “I paid $60 for a game that’s missing _____ or looks like _____”. The game can then exit beta around December with the ray tracing patch and numerous tuning improvements. Less crunch and everyone’s happy.

What do you think?

But then you would still be paying 60 bucks for a beta. And after being free for so long, I doubt anyone would be willing to drop 60 bucks after the games exits beta to continue playing a game they were playing for free since launch. That would not go over well. I feel the best course is just have flighting like they do for MCC that can patch and fix issues after release, that players get to test out earlier before the release of the update so we can give feed back on what needs to be fixed and what has been fixed.

Uhm, that’s true of any beta. Betas are supposed to constantly evolve up until launch where the mechanics are basically finalized. I still bought Halo 5 after playing the beta. Plus you don’t get the campaign. What does it matter whether the beta takes place in September or November?

Because you are essentially suggesting it release as a "Work in progress’’ title, which given how little faith this community seems to have in 343, no one is going to agree to pay 60 bucks, to play an incomplete game, and as a flagship, neither Microsoft or 343 are going to release this to the public for a cheap price, nor would they do if for free ( which would be the only acceptable way they could release a beta) but then they are still going to want to get paid for the game, so they would eventually make you have to pay fo it, which would lead not only to very pissed off players but would lead to the player walking away and essentially getting to play the full game for months, for free and Microsoft no 343 getting anything back for this investment. Also most ‘‘betas’ are not the full game, they are a segment of the game that players get to play early and are not reflective of the final game and do not offer everything. Even if it was a work in progress game, it would still be expected to be finished enough to be considered a full game, otherwise, if it was actually missing features, "work in progress or not’’ people would view it as another Halo 5 situation. No the best course of action is the flighting. Because the game can still release and then if it still needs some work, that work can come out at a later date, and we as an audience and play it and give feedback on the improvements.

We could get a beta for multiplayer but I don’t think we will for the campaign
