I believe that this is the best way to fix halo 5’s story. All they need to do is change a few things, move some events around, add more story elements, and boom! Now before anyone says that this will never happen just remember that the book Halo: The Flood is based on the events of CE.

I don’t like retconning story points. If they made a novel correlating to the events of Halo 5, they’d absolutely be free to add information and events to flesh-out the story into a more complete narrative, but I wouldn’t recommend actually changing any of the major details.

So keep Blue team reunited, Meridian, Osiris, Kamchaka, Jul’s death, Sangheilios civil war, SoS winning, the Guardians and evil Cortana?

We can keep those events but chang the order in wich they happen and how the happened. For example, we can make Jul’s death be part of the war in Sangheilios with the SoS and Fireteam Osiris and have Thel kill Jul.
I personally don’t believe they’re going to retcon any elements of H5’s narrative. They’re going to try to fix everything in universe as best they can. (How, I have no clue.) IF they were to decide to just start retconning stuff, I’d rather H6 just have a major time travel/alternate timeline event which stops the events from H5 from ever happening at all, personally. (Like, the remains of Mantle’s Approach never make it to Genesis, so Cortana never makes it to the Domain, or something.)

For Jul 'Mdama, I think he just needs his own novel, though I think it could be fairly shared with Osiris, giving both the additional background and character development they need. Doing this would allow his story to culminate in his death where it happened in Halo 5, but it would now be a bit more satisfying, because his character hat its time to shine.
(Again, I don’t like retconning the games, because once they’re out, they don’t really change, whereas if a novel or comic is ret-conned, they can fairly easily release a new updated edition with the change incorporated.)
I would also like to see another novel that covers Blue Team from their reunion, up to their appearance in Halo 5. Perhaps such a novel could tie in some of the elements from Hunt the Truth, bringing it into the coherent narrative (such as Master Chief killing the assassins at the peace-talks on that colony). This book could also reveal bits of ONI’s behind the scenes, showing how their growing concern regarding Halsey, John, and possibly the rest of the remaining Spartan 2s.
I’d also like at least a short story tying the Guardians into the Forerunner Saga, explaining when they were constructed and more about their abilities, and why they were buried instead of being used against the Flood.
“SoS winning” ??? I’m not great with abbreviations. What is being referenced here?
“Evil” Cortana is a combination of Cortana’s rampant fragments, minus the one who would sacrifice everything to do what was best for John. That is why her actions don’t have the humanity she used to show. I wouldn’t retcon this, rather I’d like to see how they complete her story arc in the next game.

I would rather the Halo story conclude than have time travel introduced as a plot element to undo things that have already happened. I say this as a huge fan who hopes to be playing new Halo games for years to come.
No, rewriting the story is a lose lose for everyone. Adding in SIGNIFICANTLY MORE DETAIL TO THE STORY AND DIALOGUE FOR CERTAIN SPARTANS would be extremely nice however.
I would totally buy a good halo 5 paperback… Hopefully written buy Eric Nylund.

But then it’s not a novelization of H5 anymore. That’s a new story altogether.

Oh I don’t disagree, I don’t think they should or will just retcon away Halo 5 or anything else - I was just saying as a hypothetical if they were going to do that how I’d execute it.

SoS: Swords of Sangheilios.

OK. I didn’t have any problem with the Swords of Sangheilios winning, because they have the Sangheilli’s greatest living military commander as their leader, they control their homeworld, and seem to be one of the strongest post-Covenant factions anyway (remember ONI was propping up Jul 'Mdama’s rebellion by giving him weapons).
So in short, I’m not for ret-conning any of Halo 5’s specifics, but I think novels fleshing out the backstory of different elements would greatly improve the overall product by introducing additional information.
