So I’ve been seeing a lot of “what if they kill Chief in Guardians” and “what would you be like if they killed Chief” threads, which is understandable due to the tensions going on in the current time of the Halo Universe. But, what if we have been wrong in theory? How would you feel if 343 instead decided to kill one of Chief’s friends to expand upon the story? Aka, Blue team. What if they killed Linda, Kelly, or Fred? Or all? How would you feel about that? I mean, Cortana’s death was a huge blow to the community, but her death was inevitable and established even back in the days of Bungie. Her death was foreshadowed even in Halo The Fall of Reach, the book that was released before Halo 1. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they did, nor would I be angry at 343 either. I’d be upset, but I would understand. The story of Halo is a history of a fictional universe, and people and important figures are going to die. Anyways, how would you feel if 343 did this, instead of killing Chief in 5, and further more, would you rather them have Chief die in 5, or one or all of his closest friends.
They already killed off black team in a somewhat disappointing way, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they killed a member of blue team
agreed! but then again I don’t really want blue team to die, they are the last known Spartan II group to have most of its members still in action.
Sure, just kill off someone in their first appearance in a Halo game… Can we just stop with these threads?
We have no reason to want, or to debate who should ‘die’ in Halo 5, just let it be a surprise for crying out loud…
But we’ve already confirmed it’s not the Chief, and killing off Blue Team would be very unsatisfying for new fans, and very unwise.

Let’s just hope any character who does die that they don’t die like Johnson. lol
I expect Chief will die at/near the end of the Reclaimer Saga. I’d like to see Chief revive Cortana at the cost of another beloved and important character. Halsey, for example. I love those deaths because you dont know whether to feel anger/sadness for X character’s death, or joy/happiness because their sacrifice brought back a different character.

Well, Cortana is basically Halsey, so It could be possible. But does The Master Chief see Dr. Halsey as a mother figure like Jorge did in Halo: Reach? I’m asking this because both Halsey and John never really got much screen time together.
Read Fall of Reach. Also note her reactions to Chief being brought up in the Halo 4 prologue and in the Spartan Ops cutscenes. Halsey is like most Spartans’ mom, but especially so to Chief.

I have read fall of reach, but not for a long time.

But if one views the universe not as a franchise but a realistic historical universe and views it within an in universe perspective, one would see the parallels to history and realize that the story is history in of itself. All fiction is history, just set in a fictional universe. And we must accept history, whether we like it or not. So if blue team does die, then they die. Let’s move on with history and see how their death impacts the historical events later down the road. Significance is key to history, and history is change over time. 343i did not kill Cortana, nor did Bungie. She sacrificed herself for John. Bungie did not kill Johnson. 343 Guilty Spark killed Johnson. 343i did not make Palmer the way she is. She made herself the way she is, and those around her and the events that inflicted her made her who she is and what she is like. It is her personality. 343i and Bungie only gave us and continues to show us history within a fictional realistic universe. I understand they write the story, but when you are given that story, look at it as history and accept what happens in that history. It’s not unwise for 343i to write that Blue Team dies. They are writing history, and what ever happens in that history, simply happens. It makes a great story and historical event within that universe.

No. It IS unwise to kill off Blue team, Doesn’t matter if it’s “history” within the Halo universe or not. If they finally have Blue team in a Halo game just to kill them off then that is bad writing.
Idea tha Chief is going to die in the end is a bit boring really and pedictable. John deserves to die like a hero but… Is there really alternatives? Maybe he turns somehow into a monitor and that is his sacrifice : “Greetings! I am the 117 Master Chef, the monitor of this installation.” Yeah, that’s totally what’s going to happen.

They killed off Noble team for the most part, and they said Halo 5 will be the darkest game.
if they killed off blue team… in halo5 … when they have only had one game… Saying I would be unhappy would be… untrue…
RIOT!!!
Or of course they just don’t kill anyone. This isn’t The Walking Dead after all.
No, it would be utterly silly to kill them off after having them finally make an appearance in the games. 343 should develop them further in the games before they kill them. Casual fans of the series are only beginning to learn about the Chief’s original team. How are you going to get them to care about Blue team after seemingly introducing them out of the blue (no pun intended) and killing them off in just one game? That’s exactly why Noble team’s debue and imminent in Halo: Reach felt forced and the drama wasn’t that convincing.
At least have them in a couple of games before you even consider killing them.
I really hate to say this but…I think they’re going to kill…Arby! If Arby dies then I’m gonna be pretty pissed off but he’s probably one of the most likely characters to die: memebers of Blue Team, Arby, etc.

I hated that… so much :\
343 GS lethally cheap shotted the only guy who was more badass than Master Chief himself.
