What if the Pillar Of Autumn had never found the Halo ring?

Im just curious how this would change the Halo universe. Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t the Covenant only find it because they followed the Autumn from Reach?

And if they didn’t find the ring how would have humanity of faired in the grand scheme of things? Or would the Covenant probally have come across another and activated one of them to begin the Great Journey?

Someone would have found a ring, eventually. The detail that probably matters most is that Chief and (moreso) Cortana made ring fall, because no one else would have been able to do what they did AND walk away with as much forerunner data as they did. Cortana interfacing with the control room terminal is possibly the single most pivotal plot point of the series.

Tho I’d recently wondered, what if Cortana didn’t stop Chief from firing the array? Everyone dies, and the galaxy is reseeded again. Does everything that once happened happen again?

I feel like halo 2 happens more or less the same, sans the arbiter well, becoming the arbiter.

Truth had been planning for the Brutes to replace the elites for a while.

Regret would have stumbled upon earth, and I don’t think its really clear how he knew where 05 was.

Regret’s forces recovered a Luminary from Meridian in 2551, and this contained the locations of the Halo rings, the Ark, and the portal on Earth. His servants decrypted it at some point in 2552, and then he promptly went with his relatively meager fleet to Earth.

Not exactly. You are forgetting about the events of First Strike. Truth had amassed a large Brute only fleet by the Unyielding Heirophant. He found Earth before the other Prophets but didn’t say anything. If CE didn’t happen MC and Blue Team never would have found this and so this Fleet would destroy humanity

I’m not sure on thoses points :
Did the Unyielding Heirophant fleet was only brutes ships ?
Did Truth specifically find Earth or was it just in a search perimiter ?
And was the deploiment of the Unyielding Heirophant fleet accelerated by the destruction of the Halo for revenge ?

Easy, John 117 never land on halo and halo Combat Evolved never exist, and John would never knew that halos are a weapon

I think it would have resulted in a Covenant victory as assuming the Prophets don’t find a ring for at least ten years:
-Cortana does not obtain valuable intel on the rings which she would use in and to control later forerunner systems.

  • Thel Vadamee never: loses the ring, becomes the arbiter or encounters the heretics in h2 (as the heretics would not have found 343 GS and no seed of doubt grows in thee mind of the elites.
    -The Unyielding Hierophant is not discovered and its complement attacks earth at the same time as Regret’s fleet.
    -High Charity, it’s complement and the leaders of the Covenant other than Truth are not taken by the flood, making his would be coup much more difficult if not impossible.
    -The battle for earth is lost for humanity due to the massive covenant fleet and Regret does not flee to a ring and so is not killed ergo no changing of the guard and Truth’s purge of the elites is put on hold as he needed a reason to frame them as unworthy to spring his plan.
    -finally with Humanity in chaos the covenant reach the ark (as they knew the portal was there for some time now) and activate the array since despite knowing what it really does (truth is crazy).
    I think this roughly sums it up but yeah; if CE never occurred then the Covenant would have inevitably found the ark and lit the rings, killing everything.

  7. Even though the covenant fleet at this point was also quite thinned , the humans were even more desperate , A Spartan Special operation would most likely be the only way to gain victory , taking out high charity and the covenant leadership simmilar to what was planned in operation redflag
  8. we assume that chief , keys and cortana made it back to earth , thus earth defenses having an effective experienced captain would most likely be prometed to a commanding role , chief would be put in command of the spartan special operation , maybe complemented by Spartan III due to the high losses of Spartan II on Reach , and cortana , as the most advanced non foerunner AI in the universe is one more effective tool.
  9. the prophets still know the location of the ark and the other halos trough the luminary from meridian , they still choose to target the earth first. they dont have 343 gluty spark or information from installation 04 yet so at this point it is a time game. can the covenant figure the halos out and fire it before they are novabombed into oblivion , and the question is if they can keep the elites loyal during this process.

Why Halo First Strike wouldn’t happend ? If the Pillar of Autumn didn’t made a stop on Halo, he would continue to Earth, then they would probably go to Reach to search survivor and start operation “Red Flag”. Master Chief will find Halsey and the Spartan survivors on Castle base and the history of “Halo First Strike” can began in a different way but surely with the same result

So the Spartans destroy the Unyielding Heirophant fleet. Regret will still find a luminary with all Halo and Ark coordinate and attack Earth with his fleet like we see in Halo 2
