What if the Didact becomes Chief's new AI?

A little something different. I can’t really say what drove me to this direction, but with the Didact being “contained” and rendered a digital essence after Halo: Escalation, I wonder if the Halo 5 teaser with Chief in his Jedi cloak was a bit of misdirection. We all assume he has that chip as a memento to Cortana and that he is trying to get her back, but when that giant Forerunner owl robot (no idea what else to call it) rises from the sand, I wonder if said robot owl is the Didact. Plenty of theories already speculate that said robot is the Didact, and if you look closely there appear to be holograms of Covenant cruisers with the hologram of the machine in the Halo 2A cutscenes with Locke and Arbiter, so it may be that the Covenant flocked to the Didact even in machine form again.

So with the Didact up to know good and making trouble in the neighborhood, maybe Chief seeks to contain him in a way that he can’t make any more trouble, hence the datachip. As for becoming his new AI, that might be wish fulfillment on my end. It would be pretty ironic that two foes like the Didact and Chief have to work together to conquer common foes and could help put the Didact on a path of redemption. We’ll see though.

I want to know how Mendicant Bias would react to the Didact’s new form. I have a feeling that Halo 5 will somehow revolve around Mendicant Bias, and I can see how the Didact would react to it. Both could try to fight to control Chief.

I don’t know, Bias sent Chief to Requiem in the first place. That might be a problem.

Wait what? Bias caused the portal to drop them off at Requiem?

That is what the final Halo 3 terminal implies and the Halo 4 Essential Visual Guide confirms Chief contacted Mendicant Bias when he was on the Ark.

Oh, I didn’t know the terminals were canon. Perhaps Bias is more of a puppetmaster than anything.

This idea is nice but still limits The Didact.

I don’t really see him as much of an action-packed character in the games moving forward. The Librarian seemed to want him to teach humanity how to attain the Mantle, cut off from his Bionicle creation laser helps move to that goal.

i’m sorry did I miss something? Is it evidenced already that he is rendered as a digital essence?

His article here on Waypoint says that. I see no reason to doubt otherwise.

Nice. What the Didact needs right now is more development on the twisted, tragic persona from the Bear trilogy. Having him in our head with us would definitely help with that.

I think Becoming allies with the Chief to help humanity in the form of his personal AI would really serve as his true redemption, especially since he (probably) is no longer Susceptible to flood infection (if he is not aware to the Logic plague) however i believe its the flood that will be the reason he puts his hatred aside.

I would support the Didact becoming Chief’s new AI companion if only to hear that oh so wonderful voice again.

That was my theory. Chief needs the Didact’s help for something (Cortana, Flood, etc)
That’s why Master Chief finds the Didact buried in sand in that Sphinx-thing. Chief asks himself if this is truly the only way to complete his goal, and looks at the chip the Didact will go on. Then Chief answers himself and clutches the chip in a reassuring way.
The Didact will help him, but would be the total opposite to Cortana. The Didact would tell Chief to abandon civilians if more people were going to die soon. In the end, I think the Didact would trick Chief into giving him a body or something.

I do highly doubt the Didact would become Chief’s new AI. If you search up Black team you would see that they were a specialized group of Spartans that came across the Didact after Halo 4, not sure what he was. When the Didact awoke his personal vendetta against the Spartans grew as he saw four of them crowded around him and killed all four of them. Perhaps Serina from Halo Wars could become Master Chief’s temporary AI. I heard that perhaps the Spirit of Fire could return in Halo 5. Of course I’m not positive on this seeing how I didn’t get this from a completely reliable source.

that would be a pretty awesome storyline. I would like to see how that would play out.

Quite honestly, I don’t see this happening. Functioning as somebody’s AI is pretty much entirely contrary to the Didact’s character. Then, too, with the way the Gravemind wrung out his mind, I think he’d be too dangerous for Chief to ever use as an AI. Maybe containment, I could imagine that being a possibility, but full-fledged AI? No.

Personally, I want to see his story grow to include the Iso-Didact. Lots of potential conflict if Bornstellar were to get involved, after all.

I only want to see Bornstellar added in if it’s reasonable. I don’t want him to be just thrown in and his debut sudden and shocking.

But the Chief was already inexplicably hearing the Didact’s voice in head during Halo 4? I’d prefer for that to be elaborated on than see some awkward plot about the Didact replacing Cortana.

Very interesting idea. Reminds me of the concept in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX of how Yubel, the antagonist of season 3, becomes Judai, the protagonist’s companion.
