What if Tartarus listened to the Arbiter at the end of Halo 2.

As we all know at the end of Halo 2, the Elites rebel against the Covenant and prevent the firing of the rings and in doing so, the Arbiter tries to show the truth to Tartarus.

So I was thinking what if at the end of Halo 2 the Arbiter was able to make Tartarus listen to the truth about the Covenant. Would the Brutes and Elites join forces and in doing, presumably, so would the rest the rest of the Covenant species (Grunts, Jackals and Drones).

Do you think they (the Brutes and Elites) would’ve have still teamed up with Humanity or would they have betrayed Johnson and Miranda before going back to High Charity to finish of the reamaining prophets and carry on the war with Humanity?

Afterall, they had no reason to do either:

  1. They had been fighting humanity for almost 28 years at that point so why stop and join forces with them now?

  2. Why carry on fighting if they had left the Covenant meaning there weren’t any reasons to fight (e.g the prophets ordering them to/because of religion) other than the fact they were enemies at one point.

What do you think would have happened if the Arbiter was able to convince Tartarus of the truth about the Covenant?

The Brutes and Elites have also had a feud for many more years. The Brutes were itching to overthrow the Elites after being sent to die and bullied for so long, religion or no religion.

Even if Tartarus allied with Arbiter, another Brute would take his place and fulfil their people’s thirst to wipe out the Elites as they have been longing for.

This. I don’t think Tartarus particularly cared what the Arbiter had to say. He’d literally just freed his people from being under the thumb of the Elites, being suddenly put in a position where he’d be following their lead again was likely unthinkable for him.

I feel like Tartarus believing Arby/Spark would have just resulted in him instead focusing on killing Arby and co instead of activating the ring. He’d still be opposed to the Elites, and H3 just wouldn’t happen because Tartarus would probably just fight for surpremacy as an additional faction at that point.

Then again, I’m not sure he’d be able to pull all the brutes away from the prophets, as again, the Great Journey to them was now about succeeding where the Elites had failed.

Tartarus would never listened to the Arbiter, the only one he would have listened would be Spark, because he is the oracle. In this case, he wouldn’t activate the Halo, but that wouldn’t change anything to his fight against the elites. He would still attack Arbi and die by his sword. So finally it wouldn’t change anything

Brutes and listening don’t go together.
