So during the Fall of Reach, the novel, we know that Sam was injured and forced to stay behind to protect the bomb while John and Kelly escaped…but what if his armour was never breached but Chief volunteered to stay behind to ensure the bomb went off?
What changes would this bring to Halo universe?
It’s clear that unlike John, Sam doesn’t possess the same leadership qualities so would the Spartans and UNSC suffer because of this change? Would Blue Team perish under Sam’s leadership or perhaps would Fred or Kelly take command?
Would Cortana pick Sam or choose someone else altogether?
And finally, would Sam be able to survive the events of ALL the Halo games or would he die without the Chief’s supernatural good luck?
Interesting.
Honestly, considering Chief’s luck doesnt actually come into play all that much (most of what we originally atrriubted to luck was his geas, apparently? Someone correct me if Im wrong), Sam might just slide right into position with ease
Fred may end up being in Cheifs actual spot though, Sams not a leader.
If San survived Fred may have lead blue team, which would’ve been interesting to see how Fred would be able to do everything Chief did…
Honestly this is one of those counter-factual situations which is really hard to predict. All Spartans are totally different to some extent. Fred, Sam, Kurt are all candidates to have taken over Blue Team. Maybe Jerome, even, following his recovery from the augmentations. Maybe Blue Team as an unit as we have come to know it wouldn’t have existed and all its members would have led other units. That early in the war deployments were still entirely fluid and, as we know from Kurt, and the Spartans in the Halo: Legends anime plenty of mixing and matching of units took place.
