WHAT IF REQUIEM ISN’T TO KEEP THE FLOOD OUT, BUT KEEP SOMETHING IN?
Please be aware, this will involve the mentioning of topics from Halo Cryptum/Primordium.
Okay, so what if the idea of Requiem isn’t to keep the Flood out, but to keep something in, such as the Timeless One? Now this is just pure speculation, but I noticed that through reading Primordium, the Precursor was found on a planetoid on the edge of our galaxy. Obviously, at the end of Halo 3, Cortana and John are drifting presumably through a similar location.
Also, at the end of Primordium, the Monitor of course takes control of the ship and is heading to find the Librarian, and the spirits of Riser and Chakas.
Requiem is defined as a ‘Mass for the repose of the souls of the dead’ - linking in with the spirits of Chakas and Riser.
As you can see, I’m picking at straws here, and I can’t think of a terribly logical theory. Hopefully one of you guys can.

Forerunners either kill the -Yoink- out of things and research specimens on specific made installation that can kill it in range(e.g. flood and Halo).
Or they kill the -Yoink- out of it save for some whom they de-evolve (e.g. Humans).
Also it’s a shield world not a prison world.

Interesting idea, especially because of 343i’s choice of the word “Requiem”.
I’m gonna go ahead and guess that it does have something to do with not only Chakas and Riser, but many other dead people…
My conclusion? Perhaps we’ll see Sgt. Maj. Johnson!
