what if reach never got glassed

now combat evolved starts with chief waking up to the pillar of Autumn under attack but, what if the covenant never succeeded in capturing reach. what if noble six escaped on the pelican with cortana, and what would be different. would master chief just be another spartan? would more of noble team survive? and would installation 4 still be active?

Why would the Covenant not have glassed Reach in this alternative timeline considering they outnumbered and outgunned the UNSC many times over at this point in the war.

What is the POD that allows Reach to survive?

this is just a yknow thought like what if theyre were more reinforcments or if master chief already got out of cryo, like would it be different _

If Reach didn’t get glassed, then Operation Red Flag would have been green lit. Best case scenario, the Spartans capture a high ranking prophet, who is then cut out of the Covenant command structure and proclaimed to be a martyr of the Covenant, thus strengthening their resolve. Worst case scenario, all Spartans on the mission would have died.

Okay so going with that thought Noble Team, Master Chief, and Linda would be in the first 1. Maybe more members of the PoA survive, for the heck of it throw in Forehammer, end with the ring blowing up. More Spartans to be seen in 2, Multiple Spartans would be delivering the Covenant back their bombs. and using the butterfly effect the fleet that was supposed to show up at Reach bumrush earth which would have a few more places to fight on earth before leaving for the ark. The gravemind would split half of Noble Team up with Arbiter. So Master Chief, Linda, Jorge, and Noble 6 visit High Charity. The rest go with Arbiter. Three plays out basically the same, but with the exception of Miranda and Johnson not dying and a huge reunion with Cortana and the Spartans. Master Chief, Linda, Jorge, and Noble 6 are left adrift in the aft of the dawn.

Miranda is promoted but I don’t know if she would lead the Infinity. The Pelican NuBlue and Noble to take would be Foehammer’s one. The Librarian accelerated NuBlue and Noble team cellular makeup. Cortana “dies”. The rest of Blue Team and Noble reunite. Johnson accepts the SIV augmentation so he included to Noble Team. The same situation follows in escalation, expects Black Team lives. Blue Team and Noble go rogue. This is where it could go a bit more off-road because Osiris Team could team up with Kilo Squad and Black team to fight Blue and Noble more evenly. Five ends with some of Noble and Blue team, Naomi, and the whole of Balck Team left in the Cryptum just to have some tragic fights, and thought-provoking enemies to fight in Infinite.

The Pillar of Autumn wouldnt have been able to leave Reach if Noble Six hadn’t stayed behind. It was only there temporarily to pick up the Cortana fragment. It was due to leave ASAP. If Six left in the Pelican the Cruiser would have torn through the Pillar of Autumn with its glassing beam. Emile would be dead by this point also.

The Fall of Reach was an established event early in Halos life as a series.

More reasons go back to reach in Infinite

Then the Halo series would become a lot more boring

im gonna read that shadows of reach book WHEN IT FINALLY GETS HERE

Same here

Reach is still getting glassed even if the UNSC won during the Fall of Reach. The Covenant now knowing the location of Reach and simply being dealt a loss will cause the Covenant to send another possibly larger combined fleet to assault Reach which unlike the UNSC. The Covenant can continue a war of attrition unlike the UNSC who will continue to pay a heavy price for every “victory” they acquire.

If the UNSC win against the 1st fleet (the supercarrier and the wave right after, I still see them evacuating everything off the planet. Covies know the planet has humans and is clearly important based on resistance so the are going to come back and the UNSC know that so, assets will be moved.

  • Potentially more UNSC ship survive to defend earth (not sure but I’d imagine reach had various ships under construction that may have been close to completion or at varying rates of complete/space worthy) - more civilians get out
  • UNSC can plant a trap for whatever the covenant send next. IE: Have a small vanguard fleet ready to engage the covie 2nd wave to distract while a NOVA bomb is prep’d on the surface of Reach. Once bomb is set, the vanguard fleet slipspace jumps and the bomb goes off destroying / damaging the covenant fleet.
  • Earth has a bit more time to fortify. Maybe even the UNSC have time to move MAC cannons from the doomed Reach (I doubt the orbital MACs can jump systems but maybe they can rip up a ground based MAC and move it if the covies take a few months). Otherwise more MACs can be prep’d for Earth.
  • With more time, depending on the ground situation on Earth during the war by this point, I’d expect the UNSC to at least be militarizing and converting all parts of the planet to withstand assault and set up mass AA everywhere. New Mombasa (and they whole planet tbh) should have been littered with AA guns and mass AT and sniper nests ideally. Militias should have been ready for at least helping build defenses all over Earth. So if Reach holds for a while longer as its not yet glassed, Earth is potentially a harder cookie to crack.

For Reach to have survived, there would needed to have been a much more comprehensive SMAC network, at least double the platforms in my opinion and the latest iteration of the ODPs that doesn’t need a planet based generator. Second the fleet and the tactics used by the fleet would need to be better. Example fighters screening the ODPs primarily with the defense fleet mainly supporting the ODPs and engaging in strikes of opportunity until a reaction force arrived. Lastly I would say if prowlers and early warning posts were able to predict where the covenant fleet would have entered real space then a trap could have been laid.

Planet side not much needs to change as even though we don’t see it, the ground forces would have feilded every piece of UNSC weapons and vehicles available.

This scenario seems extremely unlikely to take place.
