I was playing Dawn of War 2 with all the really OTT space marines talking in that slightly robotic voice but they’re these violent yet honroable fanatics. I thought it would be quite cool if they made soldiers sound and talk like that. There’s something about the Prometheans that does lend itself to them being “angels of death”, never mind the warrior monk vibe.
Just watch the Dawn of War 2 trailer and basically those sort of traits where they’re barking out orders and roaring in anger at their enemies in rage. It’d add a bit of character to them and make them sound less robotic. “Strike from the sky brothers!” That sort of stuff.
Hell even the knight. Let it talk, but like the Dreadnought so that its this sonorous and melancholic machine because it’s lost part of itself. “I have come to destroy you.”
I think they should talk LIKE THIS.
Hmmm, I imagine Promees being, silent in battle mostly communicating through linking perspectives/‘telepathically.’ The Didact unfortunately caught 343 disease in H4, one of the side effects being verbal diarrhoea.

Yeah but isn’t one of the main complaints about Prometheans that they lack character? Not speaking at all would make that worse.

Ooooooooooooooh you’re talking about the robots, sorry, was thinking of the actual warrior dudes. Uhh they do say some stuff in FF don’t they? Can’t quite recall.
Might have been cool to make them actual characters, like maybe in H5 with this A.I uprising and them breaking from Covie control the bonded Ancient/modern Human essences come to the fore a bit.
Yeah its generic stuff. They do the whole arrogant forerunner thing. Occasional funny. In reference to my Warthog “How can something so primitive be so dangerous!”.
Oh no I think the soldiers should talk like Space Marines and Knights should be more like the Dreadnoughts from Dawn of War 2. I am assuming you know about 40k?
Well that was one of the things I found really odd. Why are the soldiers referring to themselves as Forerunners when they aren’t and they’re serving a human AI. I don’t know if they were worried about “giving the game away” and these are the Wardens warriors. So I am hoping the ones Cortana and the Created use are different. I mean that is a pretty good excuse for them to change the character of the Prometheans as a faction.
Yeah they could definetly suggest that the Prometheans change and stuff like the more human qualities surfacing or maybe even consciously being brought to the fore with the Knights.
They can start by having some of them be blue. I know its a little thing, but it annoys me that they didn’t do that to indicate that Cortana controls the Prometheans versus when the Warden uses them.
You mean you’re actually sick of hearing “THIS is humanity’s best?” after about 5621389143542136487152374 times??
Thanks to your thread title, I can’t help but imagine a bunch of Promethean Knights, standing around, saying Halo 2 Marine dialogue in those exact voices.
FOOOOOR THE EMPEEEROOOOOOOR!

Adeptus Astartes would ruin the word count.
I mean a Spartan 2 is basically a Space marine from 40k. Especially the recruitment and gen enhancing stuff.

agree, there not that much fun to fight against, also.
This is…actually a pretty good idea.
Consdiering just today I heard what Soldiers would sound like if they trash-talked like gamers…

Honestly I think this is what I’ve done for knights. Its far too late now for these changes to make sense, but I think this’d how I’ve have done it.
Make the knights stand straight, and give a knightly, graceful air. None of this multi-limbed glowing skull nonsense. Make it hard to realize in halo 4 that these were even robots rather than just forerunners in combat skins. Makes the whole composed human thing more of a surprise. Floating bits are okay, but the main body should be 1 -piece. Bear’s saga, while making it clear forerunners and humans weren’t the same, also liked to stress the similarities. These guys should look like what a spartan might look like a thousand years.
I’d introduce a new, physical shield (maybe call it a buckler to help diversify teminology) that floats about the knight’s left arm most of the time. Why a physical shield you might ask? Because it acts as both a physical shield and has its own shield generator. It also it what gives the knights the power to teleport, flying apart to surround them, making them vulnerable while teleporting. Like sprinting, it should be an engagement or surprise tool, not a get out of jail card. You can of course also destroy this shield to negate.
Otherwise knights have similar roles as functions as h4 (i dont know the h5 ones well enough). The standard knight would be about equiv to an elite with the gimmick of the ‘buckler’ making him a bit trickier to deal with. Lancer still focuses on the charge + teleport aspect. Battlewagon would probably resemble the more bulletspongey nature of the Knight, having actually noticibly bulkier armor that you can take off like the h5 ones.
Watchers are mostly fine, just tweak to maybe look kind of cupidy? Not too overt, but well, they shouldn’t look creepy either.
The crawler’s could honestly be replaced with better sentinels IMO, but if they must I suppose they could have stayed.

I like all those ideas, especially about the aesthetics; and you are right it would make it that much more of a surprise to find out they were Human, heck probably be a surprise to find out they aren’t organic if, like you suggest, they appeared far more humanoid. Also like the Cupid/cherub idea for the watchers, in it’s own way that would be creepy and misleading ‘aaah cute flying ba - OH CRAP DEATH LASERS!!’
Crawlers in H4, with the variety were…serviceable, sway more to like than not; but I think some good old re-vamped sentinels (or maybe in conjunction with the crawler rather than replacing) would have been good.
My problem with the crawlers is I just feel senintels could do much of the same.
Why climb walls when you have anti gravity drones? The crawlers don’t really seem faster either.
But as for aesthetics I feel like the forerunner saga set it up as “angelic exterior but with a lot of corruption dark secrets interior”. Heck I’d say even the halo rings embody this in their seemingly harmless exterior despite their deadly power. The first time you saw a halo ring it seemed remarkable and mysterious, not a red glowing bug thing with faces and skulls.

This. Also keep them blue rather than orange. It looks better in my opinion.
