I have been thinking what if Fireteam Osiris in HALO 5 were the ODST team in HALO 3 ODST decided to join Spartan IV project. I think there would be more mental conflict for the fireteam when they were tasked to hunt down Master Chief and Blue Team. Based on what Buck has said in the game, I personally think that ODST team would care more about those Spartan soldiers since Buck’s team has been through New Mombasa event in HALO 2. Of course, Locke had his personal experience with certain Spartan related character in the Nightfall series.
I understand 343i likes to expand the HALO universe by introducing new characters. But at the end of the day, I just don’t care about that Locke’s team. Besides, some people may appreciate more Nathan Fillian and Nolan North voice-over.
Thanks!
People would probably -Yoink- less.
Well…
The Rookie died, Dutch retired and Mickey was an Innsurectionist traitor, soThat being said, I wouldn’t mind seeing Romeo join the team if one of the others were killed off, game of thrones style.
"We are not game of thrones"
Jul 'Mdama says hi!!!
What, no, sorry, not sure what happened there…

I have read some of those books. Before 343i took over the franchise, I always thought the games and the novels were two different universes, similar to nowadays Marvel cinematic universe different from the mainstream comic book universe. Anyway, they can just plan and lay the work however they want as long as the fans are satisfied. In-game-wise, that ODST team maybe under-used. I hope that wouldn’t happen to Blue Team.

Well, as much as some people enjoy the view of them being two separate entities, or not having any connection to eachother whatsoever. It is heavily implied by 343i that the books are Canonical side by side with the games. Of course retconns occur every now and then, sort of like how 343i went back to do some work on Halo: Reach after people started discussing how the novel and game clashed. Bungie claimed the game was Canon, while 343i went in saying the events of the game weren’t Canon, instead the people were Canon.
It does go to how you want to view it at least, and from everything I’ve seen the Novels and Games work in tangent. Any one have any thoughts on it as well?

Everything is canon, and always has been, unless 343 directly says that it is not.

The events of both Halo: Reach and the book are canon. 343 put out additional information when they took over to help resolve any inconsistencies that couldn’t already be cleared up using things like Halsey’s journal.
I don’t really see why having been to New Mombasa would have made there be any addition ‘oomph’ to the characters over osiris (beyond having been in a previous game). While Osiris may have some pretty new members (Olympia), its not like the other squad members haven’t experienced the human-covenant war.
Well, considering that the Rookie is dead, Dutch is retired, and Mickey is in jail, I don’t think you’d have enough of the Alpha-Nine members to round out a full fireteam.
