There are ranks in Halo 4 besides the main SR rank. This seems to be the case and while there is a invisible rank there will also be a season type ranking similar to starcrafts leagues. Kevin Franklin has talked about this and i bet come Halo 4 launch there will be more then just the SR rank because you can get to SR 130 (highest rank) in a couple weeks

actually yes very much so i know a couple people who got to SR 20 in just 1 DAY and it was said going from SR40-50 is the same XP as 100-110 and 110-120 and 120-130
