What if Halo's popularity declines with 4?

There has been talk about whether or not Halo will regain it’s peak popularity with 4 or continue the decline in popularity from Reach. (By the by, I love Reach, I’m not a hater, I’m just admitting that there are more haters than 3 had.) So what if Halo 4 ends up having less popularity than Reach?

I am an obsessive Halo fan who’s played the whole series since before Halo 2 came out, but I would personally be fine with Halo 4 not having the level of popularity that previous Halo’s had. Don’t get me wrong, I would love renewed success brought to the series. But if Halo stops being one of the big blockbuster titles, maybe it won’t draw players who only play 'cause they want to have bragging rights in all the big online shooters, anymore. Maybe alot of the jerk players would move on.

I would love it if only players who actually care about Halo as it is today, actually love playing it as it is today, would play Halo 4. (or at least mostly) It’s alot easier to play a Homefront (over 2 million in sales, US alone) just for fun that it is to play a Call of Duty just for fun.

I get pretty competitive while playing Halo these days, but it would be nice to be able to relax a little while playing sometimes, without getting completely creamed for it.

Debate away.

We can’t really possibly know that.

What if?

It’s already a forgone conclusion with what 343 are doing to Halo.

Know what? That my scenario would play out?

I honestly don’t understand and am asking for clarification.

We can’t possibly know how well Halo 4 will do in terms of sales, population etc. for many reasons.

If Halo 4 brings a decline in popularity, then if anything, it would be good, provided enough $$$$ was grossed with sales, at least.

If we had a decline in popularity, then the community would be more close knit. We would get along better, feel a better sense of unity, and the true Halo fans would be left. Everyone who sticks in it, wins.

You’re missing the point. Please don’t go off topic. I was not debating the likelihood of the occurrence, I was merely presenting the context of my statement, while accounting for the fact that not everybody agrees on that. (I’m personally holding off judgement for the time being.)

If it helps, just rephrase my comment to reflect your ‘foregone conclusion’ in your head.

Thanks.

Lets think logically here. Halo Reach most likely lost a couple fans of the series, but also gained some people who are playing the series for the first time. If 343 can manage to not redo what Halo Reach did then the series will just gain more fans. I mean its not an impossible endeavour, all they need to do is bring back more vibrant Halo-like colors, bring back weapons and vehicles everyone loves, and not have -Yoink- campaign cutout maps… well they accomplished most of that already so the future doesn’t look to grim. But the custom classes, well… thats a gamble we just need to hope for the best.

Exactly. Which is why I presented it as a ‘what if’ scenario. If it happened, this is how I would feel about it.

Halo better start being more popular when Halo 4 comes out!

Halo 4 is the return of the Master Chief and a chance for 343i to prove themselves that they are worthy of looking after the Halo franchise. Considering that they have 5 Halo games to draw from (6 if you include Halo Wars) and a wealth of books and artwork it would be actually incredible if they somehow managed to make a terrible game that wasn’t popular.

Halo 4 should be like shooting fish in a barrel. Anything short of exceptional will mean they have failed.

The question has been posed before and it’s usually a dig at the “complainers”, saying you’d be fine with lower H4 popularity because you’d be rid of them and you’d have peace and harmony in the community.

But I’ll throw a hypothetical question back at you so you can actually try to understand why they’re as vocal as they are; what if H4 is bad enough that it makes you quit? What if the series you’ve played for years and years and years takes a gameplay direction that completely ruins the experience for you?

Tis not the size of your army, but the fury of their onslaught.

And by fury, I do not mean by how loud they make themselves or how skilled they can be. “Fury” is not simply anger expressed, fury is the very expression of defiance in the face of adversity.

Fury is not being the unstoppable force pushing forward, fury is being the immovable object “flung” through the unstoppable force in complete defiance of the situation at hand.

The fury’d are not driven by their numbers, but by their emotions. And never shall our fury die.

…Do not fear, no matter the future, we will be remembered. Can ask of nothing more.

Doesn’t matter to me. Halo will still be amazing, no matter how many people have it.

Why’s that? Care to elaborate?

I won’t care about population IF the game is good.

Well, first off, the changes in gameplay from Reach and the aspects of the gameplay direction going into 4 that the complainers hate, I actually like. It’s not that Halo 4 would be made poorly, it’s that complainers would hate certain features in the game that ruins it for them. But if I love the things they hate, I’m going to love the game. In that situation, if you hate it, it’s not that the game is made badly, it’s that you don’t enjoy the gameplay they designed. Though in a sense, I suppose you could argue that it’s bad in your eye’s because they designed the gameplay “wrong” from your point of view. It’s all about perspective.

Secondly, if I did end up hating Halo 4, I would decide that for me the series ended when Bungie left Halo behind. I would be sad, then I would move on. Bungie has a new game in the works. I can simply transition from Halo: Reach to Bungie’s new series. Then I could argue that I’m not so much a Halo fan as I am a Bungie fan, and for me the next game is Bungie’s next game, not Halo 4.

Simple. We wait for a spin off, or the announcement of Halo: 5. Halo will always be popular. Get rid of the MLG inferiority complex ridden imbeciles, everyone will be getting along much, much better.

People can stay back in the times playing as a spartan II, while I will be playing on a beautiful shield world as a Spartan IV. I have been through all but the first spartan program, I will continue on though. I refuse to be left behind. I like innovation, and hate repetition.

I expect it to.

Thanks for that comment dan the downer, you always know how to slam 343 over info we dont have… Seriously your a -Yoinking!- legend

OT: Yeah, that would be actually kinda nice. Im tired of people like the guy i quoted being constant jerks all the time. And for those who blacklist the game with the info we have, obviously you arent a true halo fan, because your going to the games that have things that are the reason you left halo… Seriously, hipocritical much?
