What if Graveminds are Precursors in flood form

This is a theory but what if Graveminds(s) are precursors or forerunners that were infected by the flood and that’s why they are so smart and wise

Interesting story telling mechanic.

no, i think it was confirmed that they were highly evolved flood, but good idea!

Nope: A Gravemind starts out as a Proto-Gravemind – a Flood form created by merging the bodies and biomass of numerous sentient life forms; some Flood forms may also be repurposed and merged into the Proto-Gravemind. After a Proto-Gravemind has been created, nearby Combat Forms will continue to supply it with fresh bodies, allowing it to accumulate mass, increase in size, and gain more memories and intelligence from consumed hosts. Eventually, the Proto-Gravemind reaches a certain critical mass and becomes self-aware—a Gravemind. This critical mass tends to be made up of thousands of bodies if using human-sized bodies as a measuring unit.

But anyway maybe the Precursors, and the Flood are somehow linked together.

this should be part of your previous thread since it is on the same topic (precursors.) Please dont spam.

I didnt mean to and I don’t think it really goes with it and I wanted a discussion centered on this

Berzerk beat me to it. Clearly you have not read the novels. I suggest, if you are a fan enough to be on these forums, to go pick up some of the novels. The first 6 come in 2 3-pack box sets and are relatively cheap. They are all very enjoyable, though some obviously more than others, and explain a lot more than just the games.

I wish I had the time to read the novels and when I do I really do plan on reading them but right now I can’t, and yes I am a halo fan I love halo but I currently don’t have the time to read them but could you give me a little insight

Your other thread asks what the precursors are and this thread discusses how they could be graveminds. Or vice versa. It actually fits perfectly as a question in the other thread.

I guess your right

you should read primordium, cause that is basically what happens

The timeless one is shown to be a flood gravemind that is impersonating a precursor, at the same time, there were about 12 graveminds on installation 07 all acting together as one. So you basically got it right

Yeah i have always thought that The gravemind ( Halo 2-3 ) was the Precursor. Not sure why?

“A little insight” is tough. Throughout the books you learn the hierarchy of Flood and how each form etc. Cryptum explains The Flood’s origins broadly. But to answer your question about graveminds, they form from many infection forms’ collective intelligence binding/bonding together to form a proto-gravemind (remember Keyes in Halo 1?) who will continue to gain knowledge and collective memories until it is a singular entity which, for simplicity’s sake, leads all the local flood forms.

Not impersonating, he was one.

So I’m somewhat right

Another thing that has come to my attention is that a small group of precursors escaped the forerunner-precursor war. Now if you found all the terminals in Halo CE you would have seen one that shows 343 Guilty Spark detect a mysterious ship land on his halo ring and he detected life but the inhabitants of the ship wouldn’t communicate with him. Is it possible this was a precursor ship that escaped the war. Also someone said that a grave mind was indeed a precursor, which is awesome. The terminals were an awesome little insight and had little hints at what could be in Halo 4. If you haven’t seen them look them up on YouTube or find them yourself they are well worth it

Thats a close guess. Read the book Primordium.

The Flood were created by Precursors to consume all the thinking creatures in the galaxy in order to preserve peace and aimed to imitate precursors in their final transformation (the one after Gravemind, I presume).

I think they made the flood as a failsafe in case the forerunners betrayed them, which they did. I also think that the timeless one infected himself with it to make sure the plan for peace (flood consuming everything) was carried through.

Not a bad idea, but if it was precursor I don’t think it would crash and I believe it has some sort of similar design to earlier covenant ships

Hey, thanks for the info. I didn’t know that before. But I have one question: (Spoiler from Halo CEA)

The big Floody thing that infected Captain Keyes was a Proto-Gravemind, right?
