What if a Pelican spawns new vehicles?

Just a quick thought:

Wouldn’t it feel great if new vehicles in multiplayer were brought/carried by Pelicans, instead of just appearing out of nothing?
I love to see this kind of stuff during campaign. To me it would feel more realistic or more “alive”.

I know, I know, there might be a million reasons you’ll point out why this won’t work so easily or won’t even work at all.

For instance “indoor”-maps. Even the “garages” on Exile where the Scorpion once was or on Meltdown might be troubling. So you don’t have to do this animation all the time. You don’t have to deliver every stupid Mongoose by a Pelican.

Ragnarok on the other hand would work perfectly fine I guess.

Again, there will be a million and more complications you’ll point out. It’s just a short idea. But if you like it, I’m sure some of you will figure something out how it might could work. Let it be a special spawn-animation on just one or two maps or so…

Update

To sum it up a little:

  • Phantoms should drop Covernant vehicles
  • Only Scorpion, Warthog, Mantis, Wraith
  • Perhaps Ghost and Banshee
  • No Mongoose
  • Vehicles should be indestructible during the delivery-progress
(I know, some of you would like that, but it might totally kill any vehicle combat)

As I want weapon drop pods to literally drop when outdoors instead of just spawn, I LOVE this idea for vehicles!! =D

Don’t get me wrong, I’d rather they fix the broken things first and sort out the core mechanics first…but if they had time, then hell yes.

I would also like to see the ordnance drop pods be how weapons respawn onto a map instead of magically appearing.

The idea of a Pelican bringing down vehicles is an interesting one, and one I’d like to see put in place, but I’d imagine you’d need quite a bit of room for it to work. Also it might complicate things on maps with several vehicles, as the Pelican could block lines of sights for teammates or even overlap and clip through each other if several vehicles spawn at the same time.

It might be better to have something like a construction pad. The pad would be where a vehicle spawns, and once that vehicle is destroyed, it begins construction of a new vehicle. The vehicles could be assembled before a players eyes, and be a visual indicator of how much time is left before the vehicle is complete and it “spawns”. This would also be useful for vehicles spawning in garages and closed spaces.

As for the Pelican idea itself, I had thought of something similar to be put in Firefight, where players earn points they can spend and call in vehicles at a landing pad. For example a player earns 100k points and they go to a terminal to order/call-in a Scorpion. There is a short window while the player waits for the Pelican to arrive and drop off the vehicle, and it’s return trip is essentially a cool down for use of the landing pad. Meaning that multiple orders can’t be made at once, and teams need to decide what they need to survive the coming waves. It would be a neat addition to the mode I feel.

Yeah, already two followers. Thought I might get beaten up for this idea

So the construction pad way reminds me of Halo Wars and in the end of Command & Conquer Renegade - to all those classic Halo players who fear drastic gameplay changes right now: No, I don’t want to force a Renegade-Halo-Mash-Up (:
Well…at least not in classic multiplayer. Could be some Dominion-like fun…

Or course you’ll need enough space. But this should be solvable. And again: This “effect” doesn’t hast to be on every map. So if it fits, do it! If don’t, classic spawning still works fine.

I could imagine a map in whichs center a “neutral” vehicle spawns - carried by Pelican. So you see from afar “New Pelican incoming!” and fight on the ground until the vehicle dropped.

Not sure whether a carried vehicle should be invincible or if you should be able to destroy it.

Forge maps are another topic. I don’t know if it’s possible to implement this option.

But the basics elements are already there in campaign (or Spartan Ops). So you won’t have to implement something completely new.

Doesn’t this already happen for ordnance that respawns on the map?

What if some vehicles could “emerge” from the floor and others could be dropped by a Pelican or Orbital drop? Or depending on the type of vehicle, like the human vehicles being carried by Pelicans, the Covenant ones by Phantoms and the Forerunner ones (I’d love to see some lol) created like some structures in the campaign?

It just seems a little pointless for the most part. I would say say the best option would be to use Pelican drops for Firefight. Vehicles are already limited and it would fit well in the whole wave/round/set rotation where you get reinforcements.

In multiplayer I could see it either becoming to cluttered or be too limited to really make it ‘immersive’. It also takes a small bit of skill of timing vehicle spawn since everyone will be able to see the big dropship carrying whatever vehicle.

However for Firefight it fits perfectly and it would be cool to see.

To add to this, the enemy team should be able to destroy your team’s pelican to possibly deny your team of it’s vehicle. Could make for some interesting collaboration on the offensive/defensive side of things.

Why isn’t this a thing yet? Sounds like a GLORIOUS idea, but what about vehicles such a the mongoose or ghost who tend to spawn in cramped areas? I suppose the pelican could hover high above and drop them, whereas a tank would just be placed instead of dropped, but that leaves room for glitchy landings and possible explosion upon impact scenarios.

Sure in Campaign bring it on, that would be awesome.

Maybe in an Invasion type gametype as well.

However for normal Multiplayer, I respectfully disagree. The reason being that despite being a next gen game, Halo 5 will still push the One to its limits. That’s just a given. I’d rather keep things like this down so that, during a hectic game, framerate has more of a possibility of staying stable.

Not really. You get a sound effect as it respawns that ‘sounds’ like it’s fallen from up high, but all it actually does is just phase in in the place it falls and the front cover blows off.

I’d like an actual animation of about 5 seconds long where if you’re outside, you can actually watch it coming down through atmosphere and hit the deck, or have a pelican fly over and drop them like they did in H2.

Fair point =]

Sorry, but…

I thought so. It depends on the map really. For example - the Erosion forge canvas mainly has rocks at the higher level of the map, so Ordnance tends to just spawn in front of you.

Oh snap…well colour me embarrassed =s

Well, but the ordnance-drop-effect could be more intense anyway. More dust around the drop for some seconds. But this might is a whole new topic.

When it comes to Mongoose and Ghosts, I would say the Pelican (or Phantom) doesn’t have to drop every little…thing. In the end this would cause too much air traffic^^

On indoor maps, they can have a vehicle drop-pod like an Infinity ordinance.

The idea is cool but I’m not sure if it’s that practical.

What about replacing the “uncammo” effect with an inverse Forerunner “incineration” effect, like in the last level of the campaign.

I’m afraid this would lead away from the original idea :S
I mean, yes, they could do that, but in the end they would still just appear. It’s just a different visual-effect.

I would at least like it to come in vertical. :stuck_out_tongue:

As for ordnance drops for ALL weapons, I’d rather it be kept to power weapons. I don’t wanna hear a “BWAHDAHNK” every time a Battle Rifle wants to spawn.

As for the original topic…absolutely, I’d love for a Pelican to be the spawning service of vehicles on some maps. As long as it can’t be shot down.
