What if A handful of Covenant ships invaded Earth today...?

The UN would probably sell us out to be spared themselves. Nothing but a bunch of hire mercenaries being led by a group of people that have been detached from the people they represent for years.
Earth as a whole would be in trouble. a few pockets of humanity might survive.

“A handful.”

A single Covenant Assault Carrier would easily defeat the entirety of Earth’s armed forces. You might be thinking “well we have nukes”, the issue being the Covenant have significantly advanced tech to shoot down any rocket or plane we try to carry a nuke on. Simply put we wouldn’t stand a snowflake’s chance in Hell.

Especially given how Covenant energy shield technology applied to their ships can handle nukes (or at least protect them when the nuke brings the shields down).

You don’t even need an Assault Carrier, any SDV-class Heavy Corvette or CPV-class Heavy Destroyer can decimate entire continents before we even land a scratch.

As for the nuclear countermeasure, there is only one way to even have a chance of taking it down. Every nuke that can be fired via missile (Ground/Aircraft/Submarine-based) in Humanity’s arsenal has to be launched from as many directions possible at once. Throw in every regular SAM within range as well for good measure. Then pray the few dozen plasma cannons and point-defence guns on the ship get overwhelmed by tens of thousands of targets.
It’s basically the Archer missile strategy, but with nukes.

It’s funny but reading this reminds me of the ‘Axis Of Time’ trilogy from 2004, which depicted a ‘Post-Modern’ naval battle group of American, British and Indonesian warships being sent back in time to 1942. Long story short the Axis and Allies get ‘early access’ to lots of futuristic weapons and the blueprints to build them, but with very little capability to incorporate them into their own armies and economic infrastructure. It’s then a hectic up hill fight for the modern soldiers and sailors to prevent the -Yoink!-’s and Japanese from taking what they’ve learned to win the war.

I always thought this would make a great premise for a Halo novel set during the Great Schism, with 2 warring fleets of Covenant Jiralhanae and Separatist Sangheili somehow finding themselves sent back through time to 1942 in orbit over Earth. Obviously both sides would have adequate firepower to glass Earth to cinders many times over, however as there intention is to win the coming Great Schism both sides elect to ‘uplift’ humanity with their technology and use a unified and militarised human race to influence the future of the Covenant in this era of history. To this end the Jiralhanae side with the Axis and the Sangheili side with the Allies, with both sides intent on wiping the other out whilst doing as little damage Earth infrastructure and population as possible. (Basically they have to fight each other conventionally)

Imagine the possibilities of having a Sangheili Fleet Master or Imperial Admiral meeting Churchill, Roosevelt or Patton while also having RAF Spitfire’s and German Tiger tanks armed with Covenant plasma cannons and fuel rod missiles.

No we wouldn’t survive against the covenant.

We’d all be dead in 24 hours.

They’d probably go to the USA like aliens do in every single -Yoinking!- sy-fy film.

> I am pretty sure the Covenant would just stomp right over us. Those energy projectors and plasma torpedo’s are all they need to pretty much destroy Earth(not fully destroy but screw it up enough like by melting away the Ice caps and such.

Melting the ice caps won’t raise the sea levels as much as you think, because most of the ice in the ocean is already submerged in water so melting it will just change it from ice to water, only raising sea levels by around 20 meters, not 70 like scientists think.

Death would be swift

well… if the entire world cooperated we could have a chance of surviving
we all are talking about the US
but what about all of the other major military powers? they could help bring the covenant down.
and in ground forces, Earth could win because the small arms and most guns are alike the ones used in 2552

We lose, no question. My body would be ready to become glass or a meat pile with plasma burns.

If we had Master Chief: Yes
But in reality: No

We would lose very badly. We’re nowhere near as advanced as the UNSC, have way less collective manpwer, Covenant would have orbital and aerial superiority which means that if they wanted too, they wouldn’t even have to send ground forces onto the planet. Assuming they are not out to wipe us out, they could just use orbital bombardment to destroy key military and administrative locations until we give up. If they are trying to kill us all, then well they’ll just glass the planet and there’s nothing we can do about it.

If ground forces are sent out, first world militaries could probably put up some resistance for a decent period of time but it would only last for as long as the Covenant would want it to go on. The moment they get mad or start to lose their patience with human resistance is the moment we lose. As mentioned before, using nukes to destroy the ships wouldnt work either since anything used to deliver said nukes would get shot down. Even if a nuke did get through, the ships shielding system would pretty much tank it. There’s a reason why UNSC lower their shields first before doing that.

“Somehow I expected that”- Master Chief John-117

idk you cant really fit a covenant ship in your hand

If a handful of Covvie ships invaded Earth today, they’d eventually get stomped. I’m not saying Earth would be fine, but we have enough nukes to blow ourselves up 7 times over. Direct that power at a few Covenant ships and they’ll be radioactive Christmas lights for a few nanoseconds. Now if those handful of Covenant ships called for backup and had an armada on standby, we’re toast. But a handful of Covenant ships with no backup would be dead on arrival if we threw nukes at them like they were going out style.

The day the world as is it today wins against the Covenant is the day pigs grow an extra pair of legs, wear books as hats, speak fluent cow, invent jetpacks, and start the pig uprising. Humanity was already having nearly no chance against the Covenant, and that was five centuries from now! They had tech that was extremely advanced, such as being able to travel at lightspeed and having weapons that are overpowered by today’s standards such as the Spartan Laser, Railguns, and Hydra Launchers, and they still stood nearly no chance against the Covenant! The only reason humanity won was because of the Master Chief, a very enhanced soldier with amazing armor and energy shields, as well as having access to powerful weapons, who I recall still gets killed quite a bit whenever someone is playing Halo, and because the Prophets were idiots and ordered the execution of the elites, which then caused them to switch to humanity’s side in the war, and even after humanity won, they still destroyed HUNDREDS OF HUNDRED OF PLANETS, and slaughtered THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE, IF NOT MILLIONS OF MILLIONS OR EVEN BILLIONS. We wouldn’t stand a chance even if we had the Death Star, the Jedi Order, the Avengers, and the Justice League on our side. If it were not for all the human colonies and the fact that the Covenant did not find the location of the Earth until Halo: First Strike, they would have gone straight to Earth and everyone would all be dead in seconds.

Well we woul try to negotiate a peacy treaty but since it’s the covenant we would probably die.

Honestly I don’t think the fight would last long I mean we don’t even have space crafts for war purposes down just yet
