I am curious as if any of you think Earth as it is could withstand a small Covenant strike force, maybe an Assault Carrier, and a few Corvettes. Do you think if all the major military powers could unite fast enough and repel the alien invaders using everything we currently have at our disposal? And if we would ultimately loose, do you think the UN could hold against the Covenant for long? I wanted to to see whether the community thinks if today humanity could repel even a small invasion force?
Nope.avi
The UN would probably try to reach out to the Covenant. Then, after being rejected, they would condemn the attacks.
That would be sure to stop the Coveys in their tracks.
Wouldn’t stand a chance. How can we defeat spaceships? All the Covenant would need to do is melt the ice caps.
> Wouldn’t stand a chance. How can we defeat spaceships? All the Covenant would need to do is melt the ice caps.
Well i would say our only defense would be nuclear weapons, but I think our ground forces would stand a great chance
I am pretty sure the Covenant would just stomp right over us. Those energy projectors and plasma torpedo’s are all they need to pretty much destroy Earth(not fully destroy but screw it up enough like by melting away the Ice caps and such.
nukes wont work because of the assault carriers shields…
we’d need to fire hundred of missiles at the ship and then throw a nuke at it, or throw a nuke at it then shot it with hundreds of missiles that can somehow get past its energy projectors.
Seraphs would be pretty tough for fighters as well with their shields that just make missiles bounce off, they could be beaten, but it’d be tough. Luckily the US has thousands of fighters and i dont know how many seraphs are in a carrier.
I think we could eventually win, after quite a lot of trouble.
If they were serious about taking us out though they’d just glass us out of our range.
We’d be exterminated! If they don’t glass us, they’ll melt us with their plasma weapons.

They would try to keep the larger ship in as much tact as they can so they could take it apart and basically just duplicate as many as humanly possible and get all the factories on earth to make them so we can mount up a sizeable army for the counter attack.
We would do a good job surviving if it was that small. The armies of the world would work together to fortify a few troop carriers and launch them into space so they could board the ship. Since we dont know how the covenant detects their enemy ships in space they might get by just fine because you wouldn’t be able to see them due to how small they would be -They would think it was just a few asteroids.
Edit: Here, I said it before. We would not use Nukes. We would use a Thunderwhale. Go to 33:20 That video will explain exactly why Nukes wont work, any the other option we would use to attack something in space
We wouldn’t stand a chance, the Covenant are highly advanced and in the Halo universe they’re hundreds of years ahead of us then. Let alone in the 21st century.

there isn’t much advancement between us and the halo verse though, other than computer technology and magnetic accelerator technology (and of course the shaw fujikawa)

That is true, but probably the biggest disadvantage for us in the 21st century is space travel. We literally have no space faring military stations/ships. The UNSS would be destroyed within days of the Covenant arriving here. The only way we’d be able to destroy the ships in space would be to use nukes, but even then they have shields and they can easily shoot the nukes.
The Covenant would be basically immortal in their ships.
They would own us. Look at the Covie’s armor. Some of the Elites are armored head to toe in what is most likely bullet proof armor. Combined with Energy Shields they’d be near invincible against modern day soldiers. And if your wondering why we can kill the Covies that wear heavy armor like Elites, it’s because the bullets in most of the UNSC’s rifles fire Armor Piercing rounds.
So, that means that the Covies would have ground superiority against us.
The covenants main fighter, the Seraph, is space and atmosphere rated, and carries a slipspace drive. It has energy shields that deflect rockets, and it’s main weapon is two plasma cannons that would tear apart a modern day fighter. So the Covenant have Air Superiority as well.
I think the covenant being superior in space doesn’t need an explanation.
Now. What about our defenses? Couldn’t we just launch a nuke at the Covie Ships?
1.) Our current Nukes are not designed to attack things in space. All of the US’s Nukes are currently on a predetermined path to hit major cities and locations around the world, not inspace.
2.) Covenant Ships with energy shields have been known to survive against Nukes.
3.) Covenant Ships have point defense laser turrets.
There is no question that we would be defeated swiftly and quickly.
First we have to assume the covenant wants something on our planet(the ark maybe who knows) otherwise they would just glass the planet and we wouldn’t stand a chance. Although it’s highly unlikely we’ll be albe to take out the main ship I think we will be able to repel enemy ground forces and maybe even the covie airforce(seraphs, the lot).
Unsc weapons (apart from the mac) haven’t advanced much compaired to today’s equivelant. They are still ballistic and use pretty much the same caliber bullets. Example: .50 sniper compaired to the unsc sniper they are basically the same. And if we use armour piercing bullets in the battle on the ground it would be a fair fight. Of course some of the classes of the covenant are very dangerous, but as we all know they’ll fall with the right weapons and tactics. Same goes for our vehicles they would own the covie ones like the unsc vehicles do. A wraith wouldn’t stand a chance fighting a abrams or leopard.
As for the air battle we might, repeat might, stand a chance. A very slim one I’ll admit. Yes the seraphs do have shields but a weak equivelant of the cruisers shield. So who knows in a dogfight an human air to air missile could take it out or at least take out the shields which would leave it vulnerable to another hit. Besides we must not forget the supreme agility of our fighters.
Even if the covenant gain air-supremecy it won’t be the end. You can’t conquer a country/or the world with just an airforce. You need troops on the ground and we will hold them off.
It is unlikely we would get annihilated, humans have proven to be very risilient in the past. History has proven that superior technology does not mean you’ll be victorious.
p.s. this whole argument fails if the covenant do decide to simply glass the planet (or even just the militairy/urban areas) so i like to assume they want something of us/our planet and don’t want to risk damaging it.
oh wed win, im sure we’d all fo over to that halo costume company (i forget the name) and demand spartan suits, then wed go over to walmart and buy nerfguns, THEN since we are all pros at halo we would strategize a counter attack force to wipe out the covies
(oh and to keep the record straight

im not trolling, im just being silly
-
the only reason the covenant attacked us in the first place was because brutes are terrible diplomats.)
THe only way we could take out their ships would be with nuclear weapons. Here are the problems with this:
- Covenant ships have point defense lasers that could easily take out almost any number of nukes we could throw at them
2)If we use a large amount of nukes at once, the fallout from the radiation and explosion would kill us all anyways.
Here, I said it before. We would not use Nukes. We would use a Thunderwhale. Go to 33:20 That video will explain exactly why Nukes wont work, any the other option we would use to attack something in space
We would lose. A single Super Carrier was pwning Reach until Jorge sacrificed himself. If Reach had a hard time, we we have no chance.
In the case they needed to come down to Earth, our soldiers would fall so easily. Let’s say they attack modern day Montreal. Let’s say a group of soldiers are in cartier-ville. They barricade themselves in a house to set up an ambush near the river. Now let’s say, a wraith is passing by, the rpg’s wouldn’t really work well, wraith armour is too strong. One or two shoulds would probaly oliberate them before then can get out due to the high radius of the wraith shot. Let’s say a group of soldiers catch a covenant patrol on the narrow streets of Old Montreal. The covenant would get shot but they still have armour. They’d have a certain resistance against our firearms and the plasma would melt the ground and buildings making it hard for soldiers to move and they would die horribly. If human sniper teams could get a shot on the covenant, any covenant soldiers lucky enough who have carbines or other precision weapons could probably kill the snipers with some luck or get counter-sniped by expert jackal one team marksmen.
If heliocopters came then they would get taken down by banshees and if fighters came then they would get taken down by anti-air turrets, vampires or seraphs and skilled banshee swarms. Nukes? ARE YOU CRAZY? NUKE MONTREAL NO?
A lot of people would hide in the metros and try to barricade themselves in the underground city. That’s where a lot of people would try to hold out.
But we’d be doomed.
The Covenant would own our orbit. From there, they vaporize our satellites. And there goes the global telecommunications network (yes, I know about telephone lines, but I don’t think those go international). That alone would put our ground ops back pretty damn far.
Then there’s advanced air tech. If the Sabre is any indication, Banshees would go down pretty easy, but it would take time to bring down a Seraph, time a fighter pilot may not have. Tandem Banshee/Seraph squads could work well.
Ground tech is again extremely advanced. We could bring and Elite’s shields down and kill him, but it would take time, much like the Seraphs, while they just need to shoot us once or twice to cripple/kill infantry. Tanks would be a bit more even of a fight, as I doubt the Scorpion is too much more advanced than, say, an M1 Abrams. Problem is, Wraiths are more for artillery than direct combat, so our tanks would need line of sight, while the Wraiths just shell the area into glass.
But it all comes down to force size. It’s entirely possible for the Covenant to overstretch themselves if they brought too small of a force. Though a competent commander would focus on key area rather than everywhere. Break the biggest threats, and the rest will likely surrender.
