What If: 343i Made What Destiny Should Have Been?

We all remember the promise of Destiny. It would tell a cinematic and amazing story. It would allow you to explore different worlds with no restrictions. It would essentially blow your mind, doing something nobody had ever done before. However, that was all removed in the end, and we got, well, that… thing… Destiny is now.

Josh Holmes hinted on his Twitter that Halo 5 may be open world. I think that they should be given this chance. This was partially shown in Halo: Reach’s prototype in early 2010. It had a Warthog on a huge terrain fighting with vehicles miles away. I think it was called world battles or something. Imagine if 343i finds a way to tell a story in Halo 5 that is still epic like the others, but has so much content that it can feel natural in progression, and you can experience it how you want? Imagine having space battles. Imagine having a UNSC ship and using your slipspace drive to get places when you wanted as a fast-travel system. Imagine if it was free of the waypoint simulation that plagues Ubisoft games, and if it was free from Destiny’s lack of content or storytelling. I want 343i to blow our -Yoinking!- minds with this game, and I am excited to see what they will do.

Any thoughts or suggestions? I am very open-minded, and I think you guys can contribute to a discussion without bringing Sprint or whatever the -Yoink- else into the equation.

Halo is an FPS not an RPG. Destiny was a perfect example of how mixing the two can go completely wrong.

Destiny is fabulous at its core. The things wrong with it, is Activision pushing for micro transactions, the game being gutted out for DLC’s, and Bungie wanting everyone to play a game the way Bungie wants people to play.

I would still very much like to see a FPS RPG combo. As long as halos multiplayer remains skill based unlike Halo 5 Beta.

How is it not skill based?

As for the game being like Destiny. I’m not sure why any game would want to copy such a horrible video game.

You should not have fallen into that trap. There are enough other threads for people hating on it.

As for OP, I like the idea, but not sure for Halo. It has been linear, and that helps weave a cohesive and coherent story over the open world approach (outside of games acting like they are open world but being strickly linear in execution).

Destiny was a broken promise built on a terrible marketing scheme, destroyed by an evil publisher. Bungie pulled a bigger bait and switch with that than the Halo 2 campaign (that many in turn began to appreciate. I still felt kinda ripped off, but loved the game).

but there is still tons out there that show the positives of this. old republic is one of them. It is just because Bungie is behind it. thats the problem everyone.

I mean lets take a look at it

Halo 2 2004 was normally going to have forge mode.

Halo reach was going to be huge spiraling area but look at what happen to that.

ODST was not even a game that they focused their whole team and effort on

this can not be spoken even more true. Bungie barley talks to their community and never apologize for how they brought out the game from what they preached

Old Republic is an MMO. That’s like saying WoW is a good reason Halo should be an MMOFPSRPG (or w/e the hell the acronym is for a Destiny style game).

That sounds so familiar…kinda like…343?

I meant making it what it should’ve been, not the piece of garbage that it actually is.

MCC. They apologized greatly for what had happened and talked with there community about the updates that were happening to fix server issues. I mean they didn’t have to give us ODST(something that they were not even planning to add in) or 1 month of Live for free

Warframe is a ThirdPS RPG (but very similar in gameplay as destiny). It may not be as big and open world as Destiny is, but it has a ton of RPG elements within the game. It’s actively supported and updated and looks and plays fantastically on the Xbox One. The game is free and you don’t have to pay micro transactions to unlock things meaning it’s not so much a pay2win game.
