What if 343 innovated from Bungie's formula?

Im not saying change is a bad thing but I feel that 343i made changes to things that didnt need them and is moving futher away from what Halo is from its core. Sure Halo 5 has solid gameplay to what some might say its the best in the series, but I see things that just seem to make it more and more like a modern FPS and not something that was different from everything else. Looking at the most recent update which gave us Assault, Grifball, Fiesta and Ricochet. After playing a little of Grifball and Assault, I couldnt help but notice the change made to those specific gamemodes. Assault and Grifball dont operate like they use to.

There isnt no explosion animation and no defuse timer either, which to me makes the gamemode not true to its core like in past installments. Why 343 decided to change more of the game from what it is beyond me and has given me less faith in them as a developer. I want Halo to continue yes but done right. So I am wondering, what if 343 retained the original formula that Bungie started with? I think it would sold more than what Halo 5 has and people would have been happier.

So I think one thing 343 needs to do is DONT change gamemodes from what they are and return Halo to its original roots and keep the updated version. Add both and Im sure people will be happier.

Grif exploding was the whole point of grifball.

I hate how all this Esports bs has turned a bomb assault game into a ‘sportsball’ gamemode. What the hell, it’s a bomb, not a ball. Is that because this game is Teen or something?

Is there even an option for FFA oddball anyway?

And sadly its not there. Therefore a change that wasnt needed.

I’m sure most people played it just to watch some guy explode. Ignore the competition the game mode created or how it could be used for social play.

OP: you’re so repetitive now a days! I think most people know by now you think Bungies formula was perfect and they couldn’t do nothing wrong reguardless of their “changes for the sake of change”. H3 has examples of it, and halo reach definately has evidence of it. I wonder why bungie changed their “oh so great formula”?

You our people are just as bad as people wanting elites in the games…the “core” of game modes are not -Yoinking!- explosion sounds or one cosmetic character that the game isn’t even built around…

They did innovate from Bungies formula… to bad they used Reach’s formula and not the original trilogy.

So I should kneel down and kiss every decision 343 has and will ever make?

343’s changes helped grifball to me but assault is not balanced we need assault specific maps that won’t let armor abilities ruin it. Or nerf/take away abilities in assault

No I dont say Bungie’s Formula was perfect but in fact it was and still is better than 343’s. They change for the sake of them changing and not understanding anything. Assault stayed the all the way up until halo 4 which never had it and neither does halo 5. Elites in Halo is nothing bad either, unlike you there are people who point out the flaws made by a company because they care about the series that they dont want to die. Also trust me there are Elites players only and wont touch this becuase they are not playable. What is so wrong wanting to play as these or have features left as they are and then innovate from there.

May as well since apparently bungie never had an issue during their time. (Sarcastic). I don’t necessarily care if someone dislikes 343s direction, you’re free to criticize it just like I do (believe me, I’m not a fan of 343 but I won’t hate on them just to hate, and I won’t nitpick on sound animations or a timer like some and then call it the “core” of halo lol. If anything, the core is how it plays, not how it looks/sounds/smells/ect ect. And if we go by how it plays, it varies as some think halos movement system defined it, some the combat, some the way it was setup gameplay wise (picking up power weapons on an arena styled map which almost no other game does now a days).

Don’t assume I’m a 343 fanboy bruh lol, just read what I said to the other guy. Cosmetic reasons are not a good reason to play a game, I’m sure a guy who plays halo ONLY for an alien skin really loves and could actually understand the game lol. That’s like me saying I play halo only for the BR. You can’t legitimately like a game over one thing…I’m sure most game devs would cater to the guy for that ONE thing.

Never assumed you were a fanboy, and not your bruh either. Sure there can be people like that, you honestly think thats not possible lol. Either way Halo will continue to go downhill, seeing how 343 catered to competitive side only and nothing social about this game. Shows highly with a game that sold the least amount of the series.

like I told another guy, your expectations are to high if you’re wanting halo to be as big as it was ten years ago (being how he referenced h3 and your doing the same but with bungie)Sports teams don’t stay relevant forever, food doesn’t, actors eventually get burned out, so why can’t games? Are they supposed to stay good forever? I too would like halo to be great, but I keep my expectations not so high to upset myself since I can understand “not all good things last forever”. If halo does end up being to where I can’t play it, I’ll take a break and hope the next improves or I’ll move onto another franchise.

From the start I didnt have high expectation with Halo 5 because with Halo 4 and TMCC. Sports team sure they dont but the sport itself little by little every few years while keeping it the same as it was since its birth. You dont see Taco Bell selling burgers. Halo just needs to innovate in the right direction and I feel 343 are just taking too many steps backwards.

I’d like to see how any company can innovate. There’s nothing “new” to do other than take ideas from others and try to improve upon that which then leads to games copying each other. I’m sure we, the fans can come up with ideas, and I’m sure many have given ideas to them, which then leads to my next question, if there’s a way to innovate, why havn’t companies taken that route?

Im sure they can innovate. To a degree I remember Bungie saying something awhile back about during Reach that they were going to create a insane gamemmode that compiled all the gamemodes into one. It was point based to 1000 points and I guess in a sense Warzone is kind of like that. But in any case, halo 5 hasnt sold well in the past few years and 343 needs to think of something good because honestly my idea is to just bring both back and go from there.

Well it would be nice if the would go back and look at some of the maps and UI and the graphical aspects and physics…But I love the new mechanics etc…spartan charge ground pound stabilize slide etc…But they need to go back and get some inspiration from the bungie Halo titles…They really need to put more content in the game…desperately…

About innovation: “There’s nothing new to do.” I’m sure people said the same thing back in the late 90’s. If it were an obvious idea it would have already been done. If we already knew of the idea, then it wouldn’t be a new idea. At any rate I don’t have a problem with games borrowing ideas from other games if those ideas actually make sense in the context of the formula of the game doing the borrowing. Example, Halo borrowed the idea of a survival PvE mode from various games in the form of Firefight. It worked out well, didn’t break any core “principles” of the franchise. Or Sliding, which while it isn’t a major deal it doesn’t break what Halo fundamentally is either.

> I hate how all this Esports bs has turned a bomb assault game into a ‘sportsball’ gamemode. What the hell, it’s a bomb, not a ball. Is that because this game is Teen or something?

It has absolutely nothing to do with ESports at all. The only reason the bomb doesn’t explode is because they created the mode in a hurry to get it done. Competitive gaming isn’t the source of all your woes for -Yoinks!- sake.

Well I hope that they add in the ability to make the bomb explode.

It certainly has pushed me away from most multiplayer games, including this one.

I think most people know by now you think Bungies formula was perfect and they couldn’t do nothing wrong reguardless of their “changes for the sake of change”. H3 has examples of it, and halo reach definately has evidence of it. I wonder why bungie changed their “oh so great formula”?

I don’t necessarily care if someone dislikes 343s direction, you’re free to criticize it just like I do (believe me, I’m not a fan of 343 but I won’t hate on them just to hate, and I won’t nitpick on sound animations or a timer like some and then call it the “core” of halo lol. If anything, the core is how it plays, not how it looks/sounds/smells/ect ect. And if we go by how it plays, it varies as some think halos movement system defined it, some the combat, some the way it was setup gameplay wise (picking up power weapons on an arena styled map which almost no other game does now a days).

True. But Grifball doesn’t even play like it used. It’s no longer round based, spartan charge broke grifball, and you don’t explode once you score.
