What I want the Assault Rifle to be like

It needs to be balanced and it needs to be skill-based.

I’d like to see it as a weapon which doesn’t just involve holding down the right trigger. I’d like burst-firing the AR to be more effective at medium range, and when burst-fired, I’d like it rival or even slightly surpass the BR/DMR (but burst-firing is not easy to do so no need to worry about it being overpowered). This would make the AR reward skill, and balance it against other weapons.

I’d like it to be stronger than the BR and DMR at close range w/o the need to beatdown (and perhaps make melees 3 hits to kill). This would make the AR actually useful in its field, and thus may actually encourage competitive players to choose AR starts.

So, I’d like a cross between H3’s and Reach’s AR, but one which can also match the BR/DMR at medium range if used correctly.

What would you like the AR to be like?

I think we need a new AR altogether. The current one is very dated. A new look and better performance is need to make it useful again.

Haha, that thing was sick as all hell! I too would like to see it added, if not rarely included. It’d be sick, playing some Infection on a very eerie map, hearing the quiet spurts of SMG rounds smack into the charging undead followed by the echoing thumps of their reanimated corpses impacting the ground.

I would like to see the Halo 4 AR be based off of the ODST smg. Same stats as the H3 in terms of rof, 32rd mag, general reticle size, 16 shot kill and accuracy patterns for auto and tap firing.

However add the 2x scope and scoped recoil of the M7S. This frees up the smg tohave a more close range niche and let the Ar have a close-mid range niche perfect for firefight and casual playlists.

I love how you can burst-fire the AR in Reach and turn it into a sniper rifle so long as you have steady aim, a good feel for the gun, and the ability to stay calm while being shot at. I’d like to see that particular type of bloom return, rather than the whole “This thing is inaccurate no matter how you fire it” system- Either that, or maybe those mechanics in the form of the ODST SMG.

Gimme dat 60-round mag! CE’s AR all the way.

CE version for sure. It was fun but terrible.

Okay, what I would like the AR to be is to be more accurate. I want it to have more accuracy, so it can go long range which would be made possible by burst firing. You know what? I think it really needs a long range capability, heck even put the scope on it.

Now, I see silenced SMG favorites! This just gave me another thought, “A silenced AR?” Now, that would be kind of interesting! Having a silenced AR would take out the range and be dominant in stealth close combat. I don’t know if I want to have this because may impact the Multiplayer greatly.

Yup, not gonna lie 16 shotting with an AR at distance is -Yoinking!- hard, since autoaim is turned off and you have to 3shot burst it.

Also who knows, maybe a stronger AR would get rid of the dreaded AR-Melee deathrush.

A stronger AR that is more accurate and less spammy would be good.

This sounds really cool, I would not mind having this.

And OP, I like you idea as well, but I would prefer it to be another assault rifle variant, maybe the MA5K or MA2B.
As for the main AR variant, I would like to see it with more than 32 rounds (not necessarily 60), user-friendly in close-quarters, but with some bloom, and comparable range to the MA5C in H3 or MA37 in Reach, but with a higher rate of fire- about like the H3 MA5C, maybe a bit higher.

I don’t care about the name/variant of the weapon, I just want it to play right.

My idea of the AR was:
32 rounds/mag
14 shots to kill fully shielded spartan (in reference of 7, and also to buff it)
Higher rof than Reach’s (to add difficulty to burst-firing, and to speed kill times)
First 3 shots are 100% accurate, and reticule is slightly larger than BR reticule
After the 3rd shot, reticule expands to 250% normal size and shots become increasingly inaccurate
Either no scope or 1.5x scope

To explain my idea;
If the AR would include 60 rounds, then it would have to take around 20 or more shots to kill. That would be too slow.
14 shot & higher rof is faster at killing when burst-fired; this is compensated with higher inaccuracy if you fire it automatically (only first 3 bullets land exactly in the centre of the reticule).
I’m not sure about scoping, that could easily overpower burst-firing the AR.
