I think it is going to be basically the grenade launcher, but it fires in a straight line and is less damaging. Kinda like a cross between the pro pipe and brute shot.

What I think it is, is the replacement for the Plasma Grenade’s behaviour. In the trailer, we see it stick onto the door and blow up, hinting that it may be the new stick-and-kill weapon.
Because let’s be honest here. Even if the ex-Covenant species do show up (which I doubt), they won’t be there for the whole game, so it would be rather silly for us to have Plasma Grenades as one of the main grenades. Yes, they could make a new enemy type of Plasma Grenade, but that’s just unoriginal and somewhat boring.

Just because it’s a teaser trailer, it doesn’t mean that the stuff shown there won’t automatically be in the game.
Trust me, if they have a weapon in a teaser trailer, it will be in the game. They wouldn’t go through the effort of designing a weapon only for the teaser. It’s common sense, really.
Well I assumed that the Covenant aren’t returning and the new weapon is a replacement for the plasma grenades
I always thought of it as pick up attachment, but hey, anything can happen.
If you look closely, the projectile only detonates when he pushed down the back of the weapon.
