What I think needs to be done...

After playing the beta and really enjoying it, I personally feel that Halo 5 works extremely well with Spartan Abilities and Sprint. Many of you will agree and many of you will disagree, and that is where the massive problem is. 343i isn’t satisfying every member of the Halo community with this game…yet. Right now, they’re ignoring the old school Halo fans, and I think that losing half a fanbase is a colossal mistake. It is for that very reason that I bring the following proposal to the table:
I think that Halo 5’s matchmaking should have a minimum of two classic playlists that appeal to the old school fans; no Spartan Abilities, no Sprint, nothing. Before you start telling me that Spartan Abilities and Sprint make Halo 5 Halo 5, you need to realize that the mechanics of the game themselves are different from those in previous Halo games, and most certainly not for the worse. Strip away Spartan Abilities, including Sprint, and what remains is what I and many others believe to be the perfect hybrid between Halo 2 and Halo 3. The aiming is much harder, just as it was in Halo 3, and the hit registration is as solid as it was in Halo 2. I’m sure the game will play very differently with these old school settings, and that’s something we need if we expect some playlist variety in Halo 5.

tl;dr: Keep the majority of the playlists “vanilla” Halo 5, but at least make a somewhat reasonable amount of the playlists old school. There is absolutely no reason to ignore thousands of fans.

Inb4 people say they have a custom game toggle for turning off sprint but what we really want is matchmaking support.

+1.

Hard to argue with this. I’d like to add that I think H5 should have it’s time to shine though. Maybe a couple of weeks before stripping the abilities back and add a “classic” playlist or two.

I agree. Custom Games alone just aren’t enough.

This is perfectly fine. Just as long as the rest of the community isn’t ignored and forgotten.

There probably will be some sort of classic playlist option in the future. When you make changes (drastic or not) feathers will be ruffled. You cannot please everyone. Having said that, I’ve been with Halo from the beginning and welcome the changes.

I see no reason not to have a classic playlist, but maps that support clambering and sprint pose a problem.

But you can please the majority if you try hard enough. Tell me, what is so hard about making one or two old school playlists in the place of random ones like 5v5 “Squad Battle”? It’s not much to ask for at all. Besides, just because you welcome the changes doesn’t mean that others will as well.

EDIT: This is coming from someone who loves Halo 5 as it is by the way.

Doesn’t it also say something that removing 1 mechanic can make many many people happy?

I’m fairly certain that the majority of the people who are going to purchase this game are already pleased with what 343i is offering. I really can’t imagine hundreds of thousands of people mumbling angrily to themselves while they boot up Halo 5 on launch day.

Like I said already; I wouldn’t be surprised if they do add classic playlists in the future.

I wasn’t presuming to speak for all old school fans. I was speaking for myself and my situation.

Simple: forge maps created by the community.

You know at this point i say leave the old school Halo ‘Fans’ behind. So many of them are so ignorant and obnoxious it’s quite honestly killing this community. If they can’t move on then they get left behind.

You’d be surprised. Besides, who said they were going to purchase the game?

That’s what this thread is about, making sure that the majority of the community is satisfied and that there is a healthy, stable population.

Eh… If it’s not Reach and Halo 4, looking at the same gray textures makes my eyes bored lol.

We should be able to tweak the normal maps, if not us then 343 can.

I know that guy got to you in the other thread but don’t let it go too far you know?

That’s not fair. You can’t leave them all behind because a handful of them are ignorant and obnoxious. A lot of 343i’s fans and supporters are ignorant and obnoxious, too, you know, especially on these forums. They defend 343i no matter what, constantly telling everyone to be “grateful” and telling them to shut up because their opinions apparently don’t even matter. They forget that forums are made to share opinions and discuss them.

Just venting. Don’t mind me.

That is simple, but would require time and if forge is lacking in different object textures then we can see that playlist die quickly due to the maps being bland and uninteresting.

Bryanneo beat me to it lol

We’ve already seen different times of day for forge maps in the beta, and apparently forge is “significantly improved” according to Frank O’Connor. I don’t think we have much to worry about.
But I agree, the maps could definitely be altered through forge.
