I am one of those guys who has been with the franchise since day one; one of those guys who tries hard in multiplayer and who followed MLG in its prime, but I’m also one of those guys who read the books and spent hours searching for glitches and easter eggs. I am not going to complain about how much clunkier the gameplay is in Halo 4 compared to all of the other Halos, and I’m also not going to bash 343i since I think Bungie has had their flaws regardless if I believe that they created 3 near-perfect games.
So, onto Halo 5.
I still don’t like sprint. I still don’t like the art style. I still don’t like aim-down-sights. I still don’t like the approach to prometheans.
Yes, I played the beta.
I didn’t like sprint or armor abilities in any of the halo games because it was never needed to speed up the gameplay. In fact, I think it slows down gameplay. It is hard to explain how it ruins/slows the flow of gameplay, but if you have ever played a competitive game-type on the first three games, you know the gameplay doesn’t need speeding up. The popularity of MLG and the longevity of multiplayer with those three games also explains that adding more features isn’t the answer to sell more games/hold a decent player-count.
I understand that at this point no core-gameplay features will be changed, which I am fine with, but there are a few ways to increase the number of veterans who will play Halo 5 competitively.
Add a Classic playlist - Adding a classic playlist or a few classic playlists where the new features are disabled so that it is the core-halo experience will add to multiplayer longevity and will create an outlet for competitive halo players to enjoy that old, pure balance.
Get rid of the gimmicks - Halo multiplayer has never had gimmicks like in Halo 5. When the spartans high-five or jump into battle, I feel as if the creative directors at 343i were strictly trying to attract little-league football players.
Get rid of hit-markers - It is nice to know a cross-map grenade throw weakened someone, but hit-markers certainly aren’t needed or much appreciated. An automatic weapon or vehicle weapon just makes a ridiculous seizure-inducing X around the crosshair when shooting someone; it doesn’t feel right.
Change the medals - There were way too many medals in the Beta. I know this is being addressed, but the style of them is also pretty awful. The multi-kill medals are bland and uninspiring. Also, I don’t want to be creepily reminded every time I get a “puuuuurfect” 4-shot.
Buff the magnum - I know this may sound silly, but the pistol felt like a potato gun in the Beta and they have even nerfed it since. There is no reason the magnum shouldn’t be ridiculous like it was in some other Halos. I feel that it would add more character to the game.
Get rid of spartan chat and power-weapon announcing in the more competitive playlists.
It would be nice to play as Spartan 2s (elites also!!! Even though dino’s are beyond frustrating) in multiplayer again; don’t see why the multiplayer has to coincide with campaign.
Anyway, thank you 343i for continuing a great universe. I hope you consider suggestions from a true fan.
P.S. - Bring back the flood and 1-50 system in the future.
I like this guy. He’s like me if I was a nice person.
Though I’ll gently correct you on the magnum before the AR start kids jump down your throat. It got it’s range buffed since the beta, but it’s still a 5 shot and loses to automatics most of the time so your criticism still mostly stands.

if a classic playlists will stop the complaints sure add it. If the population number of that playlists is lower than what you were expecting then you’ll know what the community prefers.
2)They removed the high fives , I’d prefer the jumps to stay. Im starting to really get tired of the -Yoinking!- “old halo didn’t have this so this game shouldn’t have this” its -Yoinking!- annoying you guys are a broken -Yoinking!- record.
the x’s are small you won’t notice it unless you’re looking too hard.
not seeing the issue with medals
the magnum seemed fine in the gamescom videos
6)Nothing to say
yeah no im actually surprised you would even suggest playing as spartan 2s and you used the reasoning as multiplayer doesn’t need to follow the campaign but I guess you didn’t bring that reasoning when bungie made reach and we played as spartan 3s.It would make no sense for us to be able to play as spartan 2s.

I get what hes saying in some things. The jumping into battle for breakout is kind of gimmicky, although it does significantly improve the pace in my opinion. Some things I didnt like.
Pistol already got a buff, its pretty good, just a little slower.
Spartan 2s look no different than 4’s. Wear chiefs armor and pretend. As for elites, yes but just in customs or special playlists.
Hitmarkers are meh to me, theyre kind of subtle.
Everything you said about the art style, sprint, and the medals: this is 343’s art direction. If you dont like sprint, play the hopefully added classic playlist, anf if you dont like the art play MCC. I can understand why people care about core features like splitscreen that dont affect the way the game is really played, but sprint is as much a part of 5 as equipment was of 3. Sure you can take it off in customs, but its part of how the game works normally.
Finally, that title is impossible. Theres no way to satisfy all the fans. Ever. I wish they could. I dont like halo 3 because it feels like a crawl compared to halo 2. Im not the majority, but I still exist. That classic playlist would definitley help though.

Funny thing about equipment. You take it out of H3 and the game still plays 99% the same as it did before. Sprint, not so.
A game-developer who makes a game as big as halo don’t make it for themselves, they make it for the fans. So yes, it is our game. Plus, we pay 60 dollars for it. Also, I wouldn’t call the core-halo experience stale since those three games still have a significantly higher player count than the more “modern” halo 4 multiplayer.
But you are absolutely right in that stale-gameplay won’t be successful. The halo experience was basically untouched for nearly a decade, and during that time, those games produced were among the most popular and most successful, both commercially and competitively. I have nothing against “progress” or “evolution”, but I have a problem with changing something which is so highly acclaimed that it ruined its reputation.
For example, if someone were to drastically change the rules of basketball or soccer, fans would be outraged. I know it is a stretch to compare the classic halo competitive community with those sports, but to a lot of people, halo was/is a sport, and to some, it was/is even a career.
Progress and evolution should enhance this sort of competition rather than diminish it.

GreaterTirus12 I don’t. It doesn’t play like halo 4. But I use Halo 4 as an example because it is the biggest jump from the core-experience. Halo Reach was broken competitively for the most part except for MLG gametypes so I don’t really include it in my comparison - It had a great campaign though, but don’t like how you didn’t play as spartan 2s in multiplayer! !!

I agree with most of your points especially the bolded ones. The game art, medals and all the added goofy gimmicks and abilities really make the game play look like trash. The game doesn’t look or feel competitive at all. I don’t see a high population lasting for more than 2 months.

I deleted everything I agreed with/disagreed with but already been discussed in many threads from this quote.
I disagree with a classic playlist. Maps have been designed with the new movement mechanics in mind. The “classic” experience on those maps would be horrible and I dont wan’t 343i to waste manpower on a vision of Halo they don’t even believe in. Classic Halo won’t come back. Luckily enough for purists, there is the MCC.
I don’t think spartan gimmicks fit the spirit of competitive play, but they should be kept in social playlists. What do you think ?
Spartan chat looks useful considering so few people use their mics. Once I’m familiar with how each spot on the map is called I’m sure I’ll love it. Power-weapon announcing looks fantastic. Though I haven’t played the beta and I need to see for myself how, as a whole, these new vocal pointers are. Are they light additions or are they overwhelming/annoying ? I need to see for myself.
1-50 system was bad for top-tier players. Why would MLG pros have the same rank in Team Slayer as me, who’s also a 50 but not even close to being as good as them. The 1-50 system failed to separate the very good players from the top-tier, professional players. The new ranking system in Halo 5 seems like it will fix that.
