Before every new titles release I notice that some of the communities most knowledgeable members will step forward, and point out some of the flawed ideas in the upcoming game. They immediately make well written logically thought out arguments to defend their stance, and are then attacked by most forum goers. “Nostalgia. Fear of change. Competitive fanboys”, are just some of the terms I see slung at them. Now while these players try to explain the reasoning behind the certain topics they have nitpicked, they are met with total disregard and combated with unsubstantial claims.
Next is when the ranters come. People who agree with the well thought out responses of the few, but decide to nerdrage and name call. Now although they are on the side of the argument of the original knowledgeable members of the community, they distract from the issues with rants, name calling, and flooding of the boards with pure stupidity. They tend to help the other side of the argument more then what they are fighting for. Conversations and topic become diluted.
Finally we reach the after portion of the conversation. After the game is released, what I tend to notice is that all those newcomers/fanboys that months prior couldnt physically say a negative thing about the game, all of a sudden have massive complaints. They flood the forums even worse then any of us complaining about the game before hand could, but what do they say? From years of experience, these people come back to the forums in flocks to complain about other players in the game who are “abusing” the game in a way they dont like. All of a sudden theres a problem when all these lopsided unbalanced features are put into the hands of someone who knows exactly whats wrong with them, and how they will benefit him winning more often then not. The betters players always seem to carry over to each game, and be the first to master the settings that they complained about ahead of time. Leaving those who were not prepared for the core mechanical issues in total shambles.
This isnt me being pompous, or cocky. This is me just stating the things I have noticed since the days on the Bungie forums. Right now, it will be people nitpicking portions of the game that they feel need the most attention, while everyone else tells them to shutup. Afterwards, it will be those same people who told us all to be quite making the most noise. Yet, they wont fault the games creators for lopsided game mechanics. They will say its the players who are destroying the game by using what was developed all too well.
Just my observations, and some old forum goers I know probably notice the same. Its sad, because then, and only then do we get updates.
its the opinion of the community. You could have a great idea and someone agrees with you but then someone will reply with “That is absolutely stupid”. Its like everyday life. though on the forums its a little bit more noticeable sense you are reading it.
Online Anonymity. This is what creates the type of people you are discribing.
Just wait, the nerd rage is going to be Halo:Reach AL all over again. I plan on staying away from Waypoint for a few weeks after Halo 4’s release. Besides all the spoilers that will be coming, the complaining is going to be ridonkulous.
Sadly. This appears to be the way of the world. The quality of console gaming has been slowly diminishing over many years.
I know I won’t be here for the -Yoink- storm that will hit the forums once the game is released. I will be playing Halo 4 to the best of my ability working around all these issues and as you said. Finding new and better ways to play the game.
I did this for Reach, having played the Beta, and had this happen. I did this with Halo 4 here in a few replies, but surprisingly got several 'Thank’s for most of them. Haven’t tried authoring a thread yet, that I can remember.
I did love Bungie’s people, but the forum people seem to be better here. For the most part. I’ve seen a couple things that just baffle the -Yoink- outta me, though, but that’s just the nature of public forums. Out there be morons.
IMO Halo isnt really even Halo anymore. Its a completely different game that is labeled “Halo”. I see almost nothing left of the game that I use to call Halo.
All that seems similar is the title, and you have a gun…
The community here that isn’t a bunch of kids complaining are the best. We actually have knowledgeable and mature players, due to the history of the Halo series.
The complaints before the game are great - it shapes the game into the best game that everyone has.
The complaints after it are less great - you can easily spot the difference between someone mad he is dying alot and blaming it on the game, someone mad he is dying alot but humble enough to ask for help and admit to sucking, and the players who have knowledge, can compare to previous games and generally complain in a way that is hard to counter, unless you have the same knowledge yourself.

Bungie was noted for listening to their community. This is what made Bungie so awesome. 343 isn’t quite as good as bungie in this area. I think the perfect example would be the reasoning for the lack of a multiplayer beta. I believe 343 said it would be useless because when you are making as huge of changes to the game as they are, they would just get feedback telling them “no, just change it back to how it was.”
Well…to me that’s still no reason to not get feedback from the community. Like OP said, there are people in these forums who know what they are talking about, and not just a bunch of ranting and raving kids. And if you can pick these people out of the bunch, then I’m positive that devs could too.

I get what your saying. I do.
But this is 343i’s first baby, they want it to have their mark. No one in any community had a say in Halo CE, it wasn’t until Halo 2 that bungie opened up and started listening. Give 343 time, we can’t force it.
Would you like some cubed sugar for that high horse of yours? The same can be said about people who’ve had experience with halo 4 already or try to make decent points about why a certain new feature may be good for halo. But guess what? They get bashed too by the suposed people who “know” whats best for halo. BOTH sides have screaming 12 year olds who bash. To say that one side is more innocent then another is completley idiotic. You want to know who really knows whats best for halo? 343i. THEY are making the game and they are kind enough to listen to feedback and try to please everyone regardless of how small the minority may be. So to close out my post all i have to say is really? really. Don’t act like that.
This has been happening since the New Mombasa forum on Bungie.net on the run up to Halo 2. It’s really annoying, frustrating but it’s nothing new. Just part of the experience I guess.

The lack of a MP beta was because they didn’t have the time to make up one and keep it maintained whilst continuing to make halo 4. If anything there confidence in themselves is a good thing. And you seem to be forgetting 343 has let both MLG and the community get their hands on halo 4 early. (E3 RTX PAX) Realeasing a MP beta worldwide would give alot of feedback. But Id rather have smaller groups who may understand things a little better giving feedback then some kids complaining that things are too different.
