> Then Halo 2 comes out in 2004. THE ONLY reason why people think this is the best halo was because most never got to play CE online either via XB Connect or the PC version.
what the heck kind of blanket statement is this? the reason i like halo 2 a BIT more than halo 1 was because of the button combos. i have played both CE for PC, AND CE for XBC. XBC is hardly the pinnacle of online gaming. it was so incredibly laggy words really cant describe how bad it was. halo ce for the PC was the same way. you had to lead your shots a ridiculous amount in that game, too.
> Halo 2 was a let down for all serious CE players because they dumbed down the skill with the auto aim for people who were not very good. It also made it so you didn’t need to manage the health packs on maps or worry about any of the choices you made in battle. It was fun only because it was the first Halo to be on XBL.
in your opinion? i know of many serious halo vets who prefer halo 2 to halo ce, simply because of the aforementioned button combos. a lot of the game mechanics in halo 2 are a lot dumbed down, like you said, but the skill gap and depth that the button combos added to the game was INCREDIBLE. there isnt one single mechanic in a halo game that added as much skill gap or depth to halo as the button combos did to halo 2. nothing even comes remotely close to giving that extreme adrenaline-high from pulling off a clutch quad shot when you had low shields, especially if you could pull off a BXR, or another kill afterwards. have you seen the GOOD halo 2 montages where people are double shotting and using ALL of the button combos? if you have learned how to do these, these are widely accepted to be some of the most entertaining halo montages because players could relate to how incredibly hard it was to pull things off.
compare quad shotting to 5 shot spam. yea. not even remotely close to as fun to watch. if anything, it makes me laugh at how abysmal halo reach is currently. if you are talking about ‘serious competitive halo fans’, you are talking about the people who think halo reach is the worst halo game ever made, to date, hands down, bar none. a select few competitive people like reach, and think its a good game better than halo 3 or whatever, but the vast majority of us hate it with an undying passion that you will see wide-spread across these forums. skill gap was thrown out the window because the game was specifically catered to people who are BRAND NEW to halo, and people who are really bad at halo.
how else do you explain armor lock? or jet pack? or mini nuke grenades? or the epic-failed DMR where if you shoot in the most godly way possible you can literally lose to someone shooting in the WORST way possible about 26% of the time, at mid range?
maybe they just dropped the ball on testing. it very well could be that the testing crew they had for the game didnt contain even ONE SINGLE competitive minded person. to be quite frank, i find this hard to believe. there is no way in hell NO ONE saw how BLATANTLY TERRIBLE armor lock was for gameplay. and jet pack? what the heck.
most serious competitive halo fans think of reach as a cinder block to the face, not some sort of ‘swan song, flagship of halo’. even the ones who think reach is awesome still think halos 1 or 2 are massively superior in basically every regard. the % of the serious competitive halo players that think halo reach is the best halo game, or even the second best is incredibly low, like not even 5%. this game is an embarrassment, and will forever be known as the worst halo game made to date by THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS of people.
halo used to actually COMPETE with call of duty. when the MW2 came out, halo 3, a game that came out FAR before (what was it, like a year beforehand?) stayed neck and neck with mw2.
