You know what I miss about halo? Not the ranks, not the halo 1 pistol, no. I miss how the halo community was during halo 2. During halo 2, you could enter a matchmaking game and the majority of people would have mics. Sure, sometimes you ran into a lot of trash talking, but that is better than having no one talk at all. Half of my halo 2 experience was in custom games. I remember playing all sorts of custom games, cat and mouse, cops and robbers, hide and seek and original zombies. But now, I feel like no one plays custom games anymore. There is a lack of that community in halo. We should bring back clans!
party chat and lack of variety in custom options.
Clans aren’t going to bring back mics. These days the only people who seem to have mics are jerks, children, and just annoying people. That’s why I usually stay in party chat, or leave my mic off. I only talk to people on Waypoint
People were pressured into being tryhard competitors. They were discouraged from exploring the game and forced to play by specific rules. Now they go to great lengths to prove it, whether it would be abusing OP weapons, spawncamping, padding stats, or even treating other people like dirt.

This.

That, and the novelty of online console gaming has run low.
Instead of players thinking, “Wow, I can play my favorite game with other people who are on the other side of the planet without lugging my system and tv around anymore”
Now its, “Oh boy, I get to say things to other people I dont have the balls to say in real life and I dont have to face the reprecusions of said things”
I do miss the old times on Live.
This is not halo…343 PLEASEEEEEE!more and more player leave this bad copy of COD…also the final maps pack,CASTLE really suck…no more big map no more noob-gameplay! T.T
What happened? Halo 4 happened.

Please tell me you’re joking about this. Have you never played Sandtrap? Or Halo 3 Valhalla? Ever tried playing CTF on them? It actually took teamwork to make the objectives. Big team gameplay is in no way “noobish” if anything it makes it slightly harder to coordinate effective offensive and defensive moves, assuming you don’t have a full team
Back during Xbox’s early life, those people that joined it were looking for other people to play with – so it seems only natural that they were, by and large, friendly people that wanted to have a fun cooperative experience.
But, I mean, there were still jerks. And it only takes one jerk to make an entire team (or match) go silent. After a few years of that, Halo 3 brought about the power of perma-mute. So we all decided that it was just better for the general experience to not deal with jerks at all, and run around with silent buddies and enemies.
And, y’know, Halo installments have all kept that feature since. I dunno if the ratio of speaking folks on Xbox Live (that is, jerks to not-jerks) has shifted at all, but I know I’m quite fine with not testing it out. Xbox Live started out sort of like a convention (where people would talk to each other simply because they shared a hobby), but it’s become more like walking down a city block (where people kinda find it odd to see people trying to talk to the rest of the crowd).
no ranks = no mics
Lack of game types (community) in multi-player
Lack of custom game options
Lack of maps (Specifically Flood and Regicide) in multi-player
Even if 343i knows these two playlists above are not played mch, they still must do some good stuff for them!
HaloCustoms.com makes Halo 4 Customs awesome. I got a group of friends now that play Halo 4 nearly every night. I’ve been playing Customs with them nearly every night now, and when we’re not playing Customs, we’re playing Matchmaking. We have an equal amount of both.
The Customs in Halo 4 are fun. Yes, of course, there are limits. Many in fact, for now. But we use what we got, and make a great time out of it.
When we play Customs/Matchmaking, we have fun. Enjoy the game, and the people we play with. Just having good times in Halo 4.
As for players having their mics plugged in and talking has to do with two things.
In just the past week, my friends and I will be playing Matchmaking, out of Party Chat, and just talking; Having a good time. I’m assuming, because there’s a good atmosphere around, the others will plug in their mics and talk.
Just today, I made 4 friends by just talking to one friend and having a fun time playing Matchmaking.
I made 1 more by playing just one game. When the game ended, he said good game and he had to go to work. Matchmaking put the 4 of us (me, my 2 friends, and him; 2 friends because one got off and the other hadn’t I hadn’t met yet) on Red Team with no one on Blue Team. I told him to stay for 20 seconds so he could get a free win and work on his Slayer Victory Commendation just a tad (assuming he could spare the 20 seconds, and if he cared about Commendations/Armor). We got the free win, he said thanks, left, and sent a friend request.
My friends and I also played BTB today, and we lost 100-99 (I was lagging, but I did have a DMR; Besides that’s not the point). When the game ended, and we were in the waiting lobby, the other team talked about how they barely won and how shocked they were because they did bad. And then we talked to them about we did bad too (We all did bad, lol). No one was rude. Just some good talking, and LOLing at each other about how we all did bad (not trash talk, just fun).
A few days ago, I made 2 or 3 others. 8 friends in one week just by talking to one friend and having a good time in Matchmaking.
Not by being some “Come at me, bro! 1v1 me, bro! You suck! Why do you keep playing this game!?” Yoink. Not by being in Party Chat. Not by having the players muted automatically in the settings. But just by having a good time in Matchmaking with my friends in Game Chat.
I believe it’s the communication and the atmosphere that makes players plug in their mic and talk. But since nowadays, we rarely see the good, majority of players leave their mics unplugged.

Funny… Big team is the most played play list.
To answer your question as simply as possible, the game just isnt fun.
With the lack of fun factor brings a lack of community interest.343 wanted to focus on ordinance drops instead of actually winning games. Which is not fun at all when a needler, sticky det and plasma grenades pop up. With no incentive to win matches results in a lack of communication. Just my 2 cents. Take it for a grain of salt.
A suggestion, give a go in the Team Throwdown playlist. Its a more competitive playlist so there’s usually people with mics.
> What happened? Halo 4 happened.
Agreed. Halo 4 is not Halo.
I gave up on the mic after:
Having 12 year olds yell at me for taking, well any weapon or vehicle.
Having people speaking various languages yelling into their mic for god knows what.
Having my “team” (i.e. myself and three others in a group) yell at me then constantly betray me for not following their exact instructions.
Having to listen to multiple people try out for American Idol while playing a game.
Being asked to cheat/boost constantly.
Once I had someone play their electric guitar (poorly).
These are more than enough reasons for me to leave the mic in cupboard. Trash talk I can take and dish out. All this other ridiculous stuff isn’t worth it.

interesting… my halo 4 is halo.

You know what I miss more? the Halo PC community, why? Because we don’t have mics, we either use Skype, Xfire, Steam, or team speak to voice chat with each other, or we use this magical thing called text chat, and let me tell you, I find the game to be funner and better if there’s no worry about some young kid with a squeaky voice yelling “HEY WTF, I WANTED THE OTHER MAP, NOT THIS PIECE OF CRAP MAP! I’M GOING TO TEAM KILL ALL OF YOU GUYS FOR NOT PICKING THE MAP I WANTED!!!” you only got text to read, which you don’t have to read, and if you do, you can use any voice you want, you don’t have to listen to the annoying mini Drill Sergeants.
Tho I will say having some friendly people to talk to is nice, but as long as they’re not acting like they have to use every single swear word in the English language.
