What happens when you try another game.

A major problem I see in the Halo community is that they like Halo a bit too much. I got flame-warred a few weeks back because I said I played another game besides Halo. So here is my story.

I started playing different games. A lot of people here only play Halo, though. I understand this problem. I used to only play Halo for years. My friends would say, “Play CoD or WoW”, but I’d say no. Even without Xbox Live, I loved the Halo series. After Reach came out, I decided to play other FPS’s. I’d always be the annoying fanboy, saying “Halo is better” at every other game I played.

Eventually, I got better at the other games. I never used callouts or worked with my friends in Halo, so we weren’t the best players. In fact, I’d guess that my K/D in Halo 3 is .5 if not lower. But, I started getting better at CoD, or Counter-Strike, getting 15.0 K/D’s every few games. It felt weird playing other non-Halo games. But, they were fun. Some of them, I did terrible at. They were still fun, since I wasn’t too try-hard.

I must admit that I don’t play Halo as much as I used to. But, that’s not a bad thing. I found variety in games. I played lots of different campaigns and multiplayers. Some multiplayer games were more fun than Halo. The moral or point of this story is “Variety is the spice of life”. I’m not saying that you should abandon Halo for other games, just try them out (yes, even Call of Duty). Don’t feel obligated to play only Halo. If you don’t want to play a different game, that’s ok. You may actually like the different games.

(Very tired while writing this, sorry if there are typos)

I’ll have to agree with you on many points. While I won’t go into stats and whatnot, it’s pretty easy to tell when someone will simply shell out money for a game (or console even) simply because it has “Halo” or “Any other title goes here” on the cover. Too many people also just stick to the same game because they feel that everything else is sub-par to their favourite game(s).

I also have found myself wandering around to a few different games because I’m tired of the vanilla FPS or RTS experience that many huge titles today stick to. (Not saying vanilla is bad). For example, I’ve gotten into the DayZ mod this last summer and will be purchasing the stand-alone when it comes out for PC. Sure it’s an FPS-ish game, but if anyone really knows anything about DayZ, trying to survive can be quite a challenge in a game where they throw balance out the window for realism and depth…and actual hard-to-fight zombies…

Call me old fashion, I simply enjoyed the Halo 1, Halo 2, and Halo 3 much more than Halo 4. Not saying that I hate it by any means, but I just got more enjoyment out of the first big three titles. I still play the hell out of H4 when I can. But I’m just not going to be sinking my time into it as much as the original three.

Playing other games is great and I suggest everyone do it. You can learn things that give you such an edge.

After really getting into Marvel vs Capcom 3 my reaction speeds have increased greatly. DotA 2 and Heroes of newerth have taught me team work I didn’t learn in other games. Magic the Gathering has taught me to adapt to any situation.

Other games are good and when you take those skills from other games and bring them into another it gives you such a huge edge.

I’ve honestly never heard a Halo fan make fun of others for playing anything other than Halo.

Don’t let an individual or group of people from a few weeks ago shape your view of the entire Halo community.
And at the same time, don’t think that people should have to play other games if they don’t want to.
I play other games than Halo but you would never catch me ridiculing anyone just because they preferred only to play Halo.

Honestly, does it really matter?

While there are some people that just play Halo nonstop i think most do try different games.

I play lots of different games, granted 90% of them are still FPS like:

L4D
GRAW
GRAW 2
R6 Vegas
R6 Vegas 2
CoD (2,3,MW,WAW,MW2,BO,MW3,BO2)
Unreal 3
Orange Box (Half Life and Team Fortress)

Etc

I’ve always played other games. Halo isn’t even in my top 3 despite how much I love it. People always go on about how you only leave Halo if it’s bad, I’ve always left to play other games, but I come back later. A game isn’t something I play once, I go back to them all the time. These days Halo is the only FPS I really enjoy (though I love me some Metroid Prime) but that doesn’t stop me playing other games. Halo 4 came out, I played that extensively, I got the Journey Collection for Xmas, finished two of the games in that, went back to Halo 4 and for the last few days have been playing Metal Gear Rising.

Playing one certain game is like a lifestyle for some, people prefer or become accustom to a certain style of game play.

Currently I play Halo 4 which none of my family or friend play. I always jump into some Black Ops II with them and still have fun and criticize them for how bad they are for the amount of time they have been playing and I know it really gets to them.

There is basically nothing wrong with playing other games but I find that people do waste money on games they try and shelf them within a day or two. I prefer to play only a couple of games and buy the DLC which will make the game more playable and cost efficient.

Four gamers in the family and it can add up very quickly.

I think that when a game makes a sequel the should stay true to the original game. If they want to make something that plays completely different call it something else. This “Halo 4” doesn’t play like Halo they just used the name as a selling point.

If they’re flaming you for playing stuff other than Halo, just ignore them. Pretty much everyone plays other games. Halo’s the only one I play regularly, but I also play Crysis, Assassin’s Creed, and Gears of War. Playing only one game would get boring pretty fast for me.

Variety never killed anyone, I play other games besides halo.
of course Halo is the only FPS game I play, everything else is fighting games.

such as: Mortal Kombat (2011), Soul Calibur V, Street Fighter, Marvel vs Capcom 3.

and yes whether people like it or not, Super Smash Bros Brawl.

People say they hate Super Smash Bros. because they think that hating on it is the cool thing to do when deep down, we all know that everybody loves that game.

Names are based on the story. The story is a direct continuation of the Master Chief after Halo 3, hence it’s Halo 4.

I play what ever game I want and can’t say I’ve had a problem with it.

I either play games I’ve grown up playing or the style I like or if my friends have it. For instance Borderlands 2; I never liked the first one that much but was the told the second was more enjoyable and I have to agree with it when my friends told me. I think I’ve put more time into it then them and they’ve had it longer.

I’ll try the game if it’s part of a series I like but I think Lost planet 3 might be the first I won’t attempt as it looks like dead space to much.

If anyone complains because you play a certain game don’t even listen to them. You play what “you” want because “you” like it not them.

Edit*

On a side note I will probably go on vacation from the xbox for a while on the 22nd March as Monster hunter 3 ultimate is out!

> Dont most people here play other games? other than good halo (not reach or 4) i play blops, skyrim, minecraft dead space ect

I’m like you, I love loads of other titles, Gears, Assassins Creed, Ninja Gaiden, Battlefield, PGR, Mass Effect and Dead Space, even some of the Lego games are fun.

I play a ton of other games aside from Halo. I only recently went back to Halo 4 because of the new Map Pack, which is the best yet imo.
Other than Halo, I’ve played Dead Space 3 a ton, so much so that I’ve gotten sick of it, and thus went back to Halo 4. Bioshock Infinite will be my next purchase, and quite honestly, when the original Release date was supposed to be way back in November, I was looking forward to it on the same level I was looking forward to Halo 4. Once I’ve played Infinite to death, I then will return to Halo 4.
It has been this way for me since Halo 1. I will buy other games but always return to Halo because of it’s excellent multi-player and campaign. In fact, just the other day I had a friend over. I showed him Dead Space 3, but then we played Halo 2 split screen MP on Lockout and then played Delta Halo on Legendary Coop, good times.

My point being, no matter what great games come out, Halo will always hold a special place in my heart. And I will always come back when I get bored of newer games.

The question us, what is the definition of a good halo? sure reach and 4 were different but they are still good (note i’m not a fanboy my favorite game is pokemon and i enjoy the games you mentioned especially skyrim)

i mean i guess if you don’t consider them good and don’t like them thats your opinion like i hate halo 2 but i like the story, one of the aspects which makes it good

I play a good variety of games (or so I like to think), but sadly, most of my gaming time is spent on Halo or Gears of War, due to life-related limitations (IE work).
