What happens to the marines we rescue?

After seeing the new trailer for the campaign, I have had several questions about it, but there is one in particular that I would love to get an answer to.

What happens to the marines we rescue? Do they just disappear? Do they become part of some “resources” that we obtain and can we call on them to help us? Something like requesting reinforcements from the pelican.

I have noticed that UNSC outposts appear on the map, is it possible that we can take these marines to said barracks and have them there permanently?

I have noticed that the need to save and rescue our companions has been emphasized, the need for salvation, for hope. I’d like to see this recreated in-game as an important mechanic. The feeling that we are really saving those lives, that it is up to us to be taken to a safe place where they can recover and come back to us later.

Perhaps turning them into permanent NPCs on the map. I would be disappointed if they were simply a situational resource that disappears once we get away from the camp where we have rescued them.

What do you think?

Chief stores them away in his massive pockets, though he can only hold a maximum of 117.

I would love to see this myself. Remember the fire team mechanics in Reach? Would be amazing to see something reworked from that… i.e. you rescue marines and they have an FoF tag that identifies them by rank and name. You can order marines back to base/return them there yourself, but at each base you can also recruit marines into your fireteam. Would be amazing, since eventually you could ideally build a full fireteam of ODSTs!

I hope they take control of captured posts personally

I hope they go to Marine heaven, because I hate it when Marines die. It makes me sad.

(In all seriousness though, I bet they’re gonna staff the outposts we take.)

They get driven off cliffs…

They need to swarm and kill the Chief if you “accidentally” kill them. Has any Halo done that since H:CE?

It would be great if you could drop them off at the local FOB and they would stick around. You could create an army lol

the marines that chief rescued died of fall damage but i assume camps will be set up that marines can fall back too

Halo 4 shutdown opening section kill them you’ll see

We drive them off of cliffs and then I imagine we get them evac’d by The Pilot Who As Of Yet Remains Unnamed But I Sure Do Like Him And Hope He Doesn’t Super Die™.

I agree, it would be nice to have some strong base-building mechanics to differentiate Halo from (superfically) similar open world shooters like Just Cause or Destiny. Being able to track the marines you’ve saved, and seeing captured territory grow and change based on your actions on the map would be a great way to make side activities more relevant. Maybe even have some special unlockable characters depending on how and when objectives are completed.

I agree. Would love to see base building or something.
good ides here.

I guess they would be in a safe place…
But I think it could be a great idea to recruit them into a fireteam until we debauch them

I have high hopes for the IWHBYD skull.

Pokemon style marines. Be careful what you wish for or oni might make it true.

The Pilot likely comes in and takes them to a safe spot on the ring.

you mean after we drove them off the cliff?

Personally I hope for a deployment system, where marines are a resource, and can be taken with you on missions or follow you around the ring in free roam, or be called in when you’re in a tough spot to get you out of a jam. I have much more to say than this, if it’s anything you are curious about let me know.

I wonder this too. If you kill all the Marines in the campaign, do they respawn or do we have to take their lives into more consideration? Rather than driving them straight off a cliff.
