What happens to Halo 5 once Halo Wars 2 drops?

I think we have all noticed that the last monthly update will fall roughly around E3 this year when we are expecting a big info dump about Halo Wars 2. I am not really sure what happens to Halo 5 at this point.

Halo Wars 2 is being developed by Creative Assembly and I think we will hear more about the game from them once they have dropped Total Warhammer which is their current baby at the minute. So, as I understand 343 is mostly just providing limited input around the IP and the actual games development is mostly coming from their end. Plus with it being a strategy game its not going to detract interest or players from an FPS Halo game.

As an aside, what exactly is 343 working on atm if that’s the case and they are very hands off with Halo Wars 2; the next big title in the franchise?

So I don’t know. Are we potentially going to see the monthly update continue post E3 and Halo Wars 2? I would really like to see them add Brute weapons and vehicles from Halo Wars 2 as a tie in. Its just that once we get infection and firefight we’ve pretty much got most of what the community wanted and I am not sure what else they could bring to the table. But then again, I can’t see them going 3 years without a FPS Halo title so there is incentive to continue supporting the game in some capacity.

What do you think their game is at the minute. Is Halo 5 going to be set aside for Halo Wars 2 or do you think there will be some big announcement for new Halo 5 content at E3? I just don’t see a viable spin off title or Halo 6 coming any time soon realistically and Halo Wars 2 isn’t exactly replacing mainstream Halo.

The FPS Halos will continue to be the bread and butter of 343’s focus. The content drops will be winding down as we get closer to E3, so 343 is probably setting up for more additions to Halo 5; However, I do expect Halo Wars 2 footage of some sort at E3. My ultimate belief is that Halo 5 and Halo Wars 2 won’t really affect eachother.

I was wondering the same thing. After the MoR release there’s I believe two or three more content releases. With halo 6 a good year, year and a half away is there going to be a new injection of content or is that it come July/august?

I hope so too. I’ll try and divide my time between the both of them when it comes.

What sort of content could they do?

They’ve already ruled out any sort of single player story based content. They’ve got most of the modes out in some capacity. So unless there is some sort of brand new game type or more maps I am not too sure what else there is for them to do.

I’d be very surprised if they come out at E3 saying that they’ll have Halo 6 out by late next year. I know they made similar ambitious claims of a two year turnaround with Halo 5 at E3 2013 when they promised it in 2014 but I don’t think that would be realistic. I am guessing it got pushed back for a reason. So I don’t think we will see Halo 6 until late 2018.

I could be wrong. It might be that they feel they have the new technology in hand and feel an imperative to bring out a new title quickly to clear the air. I do think there will be some sort of title from 343i announced at E3. Something to clear the air and reassure fans that the series is in good hands and that they still have a strong vision for the series. But I just expect these to be the distant future, not next year.

More maps, more reqs would be the easy thing to do. I can see them continue to monitor matchmaking but that’s really it till 6 drops.

I would really like if Halo , the FPS games, could make it to every other year releases. If they could keep up this type of support maybe from a smaller team and letting the main team build a new game it is possible. They could also use other developers for help if needed. I know it’s pretty unrealistic but it would be awesome.

no idea maybe just add more gametypes and maps but im expecting to see a teaser trailer announcing halo 6 like they did at E3 2013

What will happen? Halo fans will continue to play H5. Just like they play MCC still. Just another Halo game added to the list.

They do though. H4 was 2012 (I think) and mcc was outsourced to many dev groups in 2014, h5 was done by 343 in 2015. That’s a three year difference on the main title development and h6 is speculated for 2017.

Likely cross-promo armors and unit skins. Play one, get the cosmetics for the other…

not much probably. halo wars 2 is a completely different style of game

Halo Wars 2 will completely replace Halo 5. Both in community and development. Because that makes sense.

My guess is it will have the same affect that the first Halo Wars had on the current Halo. I like RTS games, I enjoyed Halo Wars but the rage quitters made it impossible to become a General and unlock the achievement. I just hope they don’t make it so impossible next time to unlock. I guess you can boost but you didn’t get much XP so it got very tedious

Well, most of us here are FPS gamers and they’ll probably try Halo Wars 2 but will go back to Halo 5 since they’ll find it “difficult”. Still, it won’t be for those that are good at strategic games.

Halo 5 will be my got to game till 6 comes out. Simples

A lot of Special Reqs will probably be in Halo Wars 2 for Halo 5 to encourage buying

Lore fans will go play Halo Wars 2 and shift between Halo 5 and Halo Wars. Originally there was talk of a Halo 3 Anniversary planned for 2017. I see no reason to announce that at this years E3, so im just gonna assume another content drop for Halo 5 will be announced. That or Warzone Firefight will come out the day of MS’ E3 Press Conference

Since RTS used to be my jam, I’ll probably be jumping ship.
