A really interesting thought dawned upon me a short while ago after my MCC game crashed and kicked me back to the home screen. I was playing Halo: Reach Slayer, and those familiar with the Forge World map known as Ellul would know that there are two gravity lifts that propels you up to where the rocket launcher spawns. Some of you may also know that you are actually able to toss a plasma grenade into one of them and because of the geometry, it will endlessly loop throughout it until it either sticks to someone going up it or gets caught up in a nearby explosion and thus detonates. This is a tactic I have been employing on that map for years and have gotten a lot of kills doing it. In fact I had two circling through it when my game crashed and I left.
Which brings me to the main point here. What happens in game if say someone was to run into that sticky grenade that I have left in the lift after I am no longer in the game? Would it still say for the other person - my gamertag- stuck you like it normally would if I was still in game and credit me a kill or would it perhaps just be a suicide for the poor dude who it latched onto? Subsequently, if a team mate was unfortunate enough to be the victim, would it still say they were betrayed by me? I’m really curious to know if anyone has ever been in a position to know what does actually happen because I’m sure it’s incredibly rare.
I suppose a similar situation could possibly work in say Halo 3 if someone had left a trip mine active and then left the game and someone met their fate my stepping on it (please let me know if this is inaccurate as I only play Reach, I’m just assuming this may happen in 3). Otherwise I can’t really think of another way this peculiar situation might occur.
Also a fun fact: if you do get a kill by sticking someone in the gravity lift on the map Ellul as per my example, you are awarded a Pull medal as the game must think your enemy is jetpacking.
