Spirit of war “Smart” AI. Considering she was active at 2530 and they went in to cryo-sleep at 2531 and considering Halo Wars 2 begins in 2558 or 2559. It’s safe to assume they terminated themselves before going rampant. Hence why they have the new AI instead from the Ark
It’s something like six or seven years a “Smart” AI can last before rampancy begins

It’s assumed, but it was known Serena was a smart AI, and the rampancy thing is known, so it’s most likely.
There’s a comic in Tales from Slipspace that explains why she’s not in HW2. She self-terminates herself to prevent her rampancy from affecting the SoF negatively.

Well, trying to be nice here, I think the comic this post is talking about it is the last one released at the end of 2016. By the way, I just bought my copy right now! I need to wait till day 4th to read it. I want to know what happen by myself XDDD

Especially since, according to those same comics that I never read because I don’t have the money, time, or desire to read them.
It is confirmed that there are flood forms on board the Spirit of Fire, unless they all got killed in another comic since I wouldn’t know, but it sets the stage for the flood to return at least in a minor role.

I believe some members of the spirit of fire woke up from cryo sleep to deal with the flood threat. It was in a comic and also covered in a video but I can’t remember where.

Don’t worry, they do talk about how Serina is gone, and how Anders is the best they got since Serina isn’t around any more in the first mission.

Of course, that assumes Smart AIs can actually shut down, the end of Hunt the Truth Season 2 suggested that Smart AIs were regularly tested and then shut down prior to being accepted into service.

Plus Anders set it up so Serena couldn’t abort dispensation. So yes, she’s gone.
