Does anyone know why bungie sold halo?
Microsoft acquired Bungie back 2000 shortly after they ran the Halo demo at MacWorld, Halo then transformed into the FPS we play today. They were contracted to make 5 games and fulfilled that contract with Reach in 2010 (the same year they struck the deal with Activision). 2007 saw them split away from Microsoft and form Bungie LLC, their own independent company. Microsoft retained the Halo franchise IP from the split and they set up their own internal studio in 343 industries to carry the franchise forward.
There’s a few extra details about the split in this weekly update from Frank:

Essentially they wanted to move away from making Halo games and eventually did.

Thank you for the quick answer on that.
With Bungie focusing on Destiny, I wonder if they have anyone who pays attention to all the feedback 343 is getting and ponders whether or not to come back to Halo, in the 2020’s, once their done working with Activision on Destiny.
Well remember that it would be up to Microsoft whether or not Bungie could ever take the reigns of Halo again, MS might want to continue on with their own internal team. The Bungie that ran Halo is a whole different company now as well, they have expanded a lot since their deal with Activision - losing some key employees, gaining new employees. They had their visions set to move away from Halo from around the time of ODST at the latest, so I’m really not sure that they would want to come back to it again. They’re forging ahead with their own plans - Destiny and Destiny 2 - I think if they were to taking on another IP it would again be something of their won creation.

yea… somehow. But it’s totally not just because of bungies name, that would be so incorrect.
