That Halo (which is most likely Zeta Halo or Installation 07) has massive damage. I’m surprised that it’s even “working”. At the end of the trailer, there is a hologram of a a Halo ring. This is most likely Zeta Halo. It seems there was an event quite similar to what Chief did to the first Halo Ring. Although, whatever happened didn’t affect Zeta Halo the way it did Alpha Halo.
I have some theories as to what happened from most likely to least likely
Chief tried to destroy the Ring but failed.
The Infinity was destroyed close to the Ring and damaged it heavily.
Cortana tried to destroy it for some reason.
The Ring is older than the other Halos so maybe old, faulty hardware?

I like the idea of the Infinity having something to do with it. It might even shed a little light on why Chief is just floating around in space depending on how they approach it.
I think it would be cool if we got the chance to play the experience too, that would be fun.
If you look at the box art .The Halo seemed to be jettison sections itself rather than being damaged by others .
We learned that Halo rings would do that in Halo wars 2 . So whatever Cortana is doing in that catographers control room is probably ralated to the jettisoning.

I thought it was about the same size. It was originally much larger, but after the incident at the end of Primordial, it broke apart and shrunk down to about the size of the Lesser Ark rings. Could still be larger though, I’m not sure.

No, you are right. It did shrink down. My mistake
The Pilot in the trailer says “We lost” when Chief looks at the broken ring. I believe Cortana destroyed Zeta Halo. She would have two reasons to do so. One is that the Domain is vulnerable to the Halo array firing but I think this is the weaker point because as Cortana is an AI she could store her self out of the Domain and re-enter after the array fires. Cortana, the created, and the prometheans are not vulnerable to the Halo array. So why destroy the Halos? The 2017 flood loot crate essentially confirms Cortana having the Logic Plague. There we have reason number two she is destroying the Halos because it benefits the flood. The 2017 evidence is not the only reason to think Cortana has the logic plague (we have quotes from the games, the excerpt from Halo evolutions, and her galaxy take over in Halo 5) but it is the most relevant because 343 released it post Halo 5.
I also must add for those who believe the flood will not be in infinite, just check out 343’s audio recordings the first few videos there are some sounds that only fit the flood. Also we are on Zeta Halo with a rich flood history, the flood also in lore are supposed to be our test for the mantel of responsibility which we do not have yet. They can easily show up via an new outbreak or the one on the ark. This game is also supposed to introduce new players to the franchise,and the game is named after the super weapon that destroys the flood. You think to introduce new players there will be some clunky exposition as to how we won against the flood and that’s all? Halo’s horror flood aspect is an integral part to the franchise.
Now to those who say it will over complicate the story as 343 stated they did not want to do. I would argue the flood’s re-introduction would simplify the story massively. Many saw Halo 5’s plot as a dead end and thought it would be impossible to recover the story because cortana’s behavior was unlike her and the created story was uninteresting but if you add the logic plague into the mix her galaxy take over makes total sense.There is no need to retcon anything because Halo 5 would lead nicely into the return of the flood with the aid of Cortana.
