What happened to visors?

I noticed there are only 2 visors on the helmets we have seen… all the other ones are just either too tiny or not noticeable or just not there…
I don’t wanna be forced to wear an ugly Gungnir looking helmet just because it has the specialization I like, besides having virtually no visor on 85% of the helmets just isn’t halo looking.

Looks like super soldier in space IV

Realistically, in 500 years they wouldn’t need visors. They can just use cameras.

bs angel also told us that you don’t have to use a particular armour to access the abilities.

Ah I did not know that, I thought they were linked.

But still… idc if they can use “cameras” or whatever… just looks like a block head to me, the visors were so halo

HAZOP, Soldier, Warrior, Recon, Scout, Rogue, and Pathfinder are all the ones that have noticeable visors, I think.

You would need two cameras for proper depth perception. They would also need to by relatively high quality or else you’d go into battle with nothing but a grainy view that probably won’t show you that grenade coming at you very well. Also, how are you going to focus on something so close to your face for long periods of time?

Why have cameras anyway? They could only limit your peripheral vision, unless it’s a fish-eye lense or something, in which case you’re going to have a hard time because who can stand to look through a fish-eye in battle? Also, if a camera get’s broken, you’re blind inside your helmet. If your visor gets cracked, your vision is obscured but not impossible to use. Besides, cost-wise it’s either two cameras or a single plate of transparent material (which would basically be a big pair of modern, high-end sunglasses–they don’t need to be super shock resistant because of the shields–although If I’m cannonically wrong please correct me), and clearly two cameras and a virtual reality display inside the already cramped helmet (plus you need to edit in the HUD) would be more expensive. And if the UNSC was throwing money around, Chief probably wouldn’t be the last Spartan II and there’d be a bunch of Infinity ships running around.

I’m getting more and more of the “powerranger/anime” vibe, and I don’t like it. Seriously, what is all this crap decoration garbage on their face? If I was in battle, I’d want a clear field of vision with smooth contours, so if I fell or something nothing would get stuck in them. Now there are just random struts jutting out, and frankly it looks ugly and impractical. I’m not one to complain too much, but the new artistic vision is starting to bug me–and don’t think it’s necessarily new; Hayabusa started it out. Does it look cool? Yes. Does it look completely impractical? Yes. Hopefully their “nostalgic” stuff IGN referred to will be good, classic Halo and not “reinvisioned” classic stuff (like the Scout helmet we’ve already seen).

EDIT: Let me clarify myself a little. It’s the helmets I have an issue with. The bodies range from OK to awesome (although those giant back…things are a little much).
And I don’t doubt that there is a lot more armor to be shown, much of it more “classic.” But the general feel of the game–or at least what they’re showing/making it out to be (armor, weapon, vehicle, etc. design)–just feels like it’s rebelling from Halo and making it more of a generic Sci-Fi shooter.

^^My opinion, and nothing but my opinion. Would I love it the Sniper became the Halo Sniper again instead of this weird…instrument of torture? Yes, but I’m not going to boycot the game because of it.

I think we only got a good look at 1/20th of the armory, there’s probably plenty of helmets that fill the Classic Halo look.
I seriously can’t wait, but so far, I think I’m going to be a HAZOP or Venator kind of guy.

By having a number of tiny cameras and a wrap around screen you could eliminate those issues. Remember, we already have small, palm sized HD video cameras. Our camera technology is improving rapidly. Who know’s what it’ll be like in 500 years?

You don’t need to wear the armor in order to get the bonus. The bonuses from Specializations are going to be a Tactical or Support Package. The armor shown is just the armor you will be unlocking as you progress through the specialization. You will also unlock weapon and armor skins as you complete levels in a Specialization. These will be detailed in tonight’s bulletin.

Helmets will be swappable without any sort of punishment.

Visors are the weak spots in a helmet, it makes sense that the majority of the helmets have either small or no visor.

Weak spot in what way? Yes, it’s structually weaker than the back of a helmet, but once your shields are down, it doesn’t matter how big your visor is. A headshot’s a headshot.

And as I said before, maybe your shields are popped when an explosion sends you into the air, and when you land your break your visor (a-la Kat in the live-action trailer). At least you can still see, and once your shields recharge it won’t make a difference in terms of safety (again, correct me if I’m cannonically wrong), but if you break a camera…goodnight!
