What happened to using the flashlight in halo

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, I’m talking about how you could use the flashlight in halo ce and halo 2 multiplayer and single player by pressing x. I don’t know why they got rid of it in later halo games because I was making a horror map in halo 4 forge and I found out that you can’t use a flashlight in multiplayer. :frowning:

It worked well in Halo CE with the darker levels, but I think it is just the fact that with the new game engines, things are rendered just… brighter, I think. I have heard that it is actually harder to make a level that is darker (with the need for a flashlight) compared to making a normally lit level. Not sure though, but it would be nice to see it return in Infinite.

It has been present later on too though it hasnt been as useful as in Halo: Combat Evolved for one.
Also, i remember the button being the white button for Halo: Combat Evolved & Halo 2 with the black button next to it being the grenade type switch button. Unless you mean some anniversary edition either as separate or part of MCC version.

And darkness would really make for some natural obstacle which could be used to improve the game. I remember when I was waiting for dark souls 2 I looked forward to the darkness and torch mechanic but the B team just ruined that concept in the final release. The gameplay demostration style of game could have been too much for them to develop but i just dont get why would they drop the darkness as natural element. Maybe its just the way new games are.

But enough about that, the point is that the modern games could really use darker environments to mix up the gameplay. Its not just a horror game concept where at times its even overused.
Also, a side note, next time when you pla the level “keyes” in Halo: Combat evolved, try switching between new and old graphics in the canyons. Its just ridiculous how its lit in the new graphics.
Fog/mist is another visual obstruction that is really underrated. Just check the beginning of level “343 quilty spark” in Halo: Combat Evolved with old and new graphics, the change in atmosphere is ridiculous. But that is for another topic.

It worked in CE and that was about it. Seemed like one of those things they silently phased out

Yeah. I really hope they actually make dark levels n stuff in halo infinite and we could use flashlights again.

Maybe if it was available in custom games, but there isn’t really a need for it in this games regular matchmaking. People might also mistake it for the light on power weapons like the zoomed sniper and shotgun.

Another reason is that they don’t have enough buttons for it anymore, in Halo because of Spartan abilities and the such, and in other games because of useless emotes and sprays.

Spartan III’s night vision and ODST visors removed the need for flashlights. It would be easier to simply transfer the technology to Spartan II HUD’s.

That’s fair. It was an early concept that just got to a point where it was useless
