I was really hoping we’d get a matchmaking composer in Infinite just like MCC. It wouldn’t need as many options but it would still be cool.
It’s honestly my favorite game feature of the entire last generation from any game.

it isn’t 10 bucks to unlock the BP, this the only thing I´m dissapointed
MOnths ago I was warning people about this and everyone said “you’re being hyperbolic” “it won’t be that bad”
and well…here we are
Althought it was said that the first premium battlepass was supposed to be free for everyone
maybe they walked back on that too
In total, there are only 20 cosmetics that you can get in the battle pass without paying. All the Reach armor is locked away, not a single piece can be earned. 81 cosmetics are locked in the battle pass, a significant majority of content is locked away behind $10. If every season assumingly does the same thing with the current slow as molasses progression, we’re really getting very little from 343 to actually earn. This is really strange contrast to MCC’s progression which 343 knows most people enjoy(at least that I’ve seen). To be honest, this move feels very corporate focused and cares very little about the players. It feels rather predatory to me, cause I wanted the Mk. V(B) armor from the beginning and this is deliberately targeting players like me to force us to pay if we really want the customization.
As much as I want the armor, I’m saying no to 343 that this isn’t acceptable and the rest of the fan base should say no as well. Something to also consider is that many of us on these forums paid for the full version of the game including the campaign. For me that was $80 plus tax pre-order, which makes the premium battle pass hurt even more. We paid full price for the game, we should get the battle pass premium included by default. I highly doubt the campaign alone is worth full AAA price.
they didnt TECHNICALLY lie, but they failed to mention how much of the worthwhile cosmetics would actually end up being free
It was either a lie or an extreme exaggeration, there is virtually nothing worthwhile available for free in the pass.
I am against FTP, but you guys know the game is FTP right?
For that reason I think I will refund the campaign and uninstall the game. I paid 60$ for this entire game, if it’s just the campaign and no unlocks for me when I finally get it, what’s the point?
There’s literally nothing free in the store. Oh wait, sorry, there are total of 3 items in the customisation menu that i could equip. Rest is locked behind paywall or battlepass.
I thought that maybe, just maybe 343 would learn their lesson. Seems like not. I may actually refund the campaign pre-order.
TF2 was the first game saw do this. Coincidentally it is also has the best MTX system and actually got me to spend some money on their stuff.
I feel like this progress system and the horrible monetized content will hurt this game way too much.
I mean the actual game plays great apart from some stupid stuff (UI, vehicle drops etc). But the rest is so insanely predatory. This can’t continue like it is now. Needs to change asap.
Anyone who thinks cosmetics are going to be free in a free to play game mode is crazy
Honestly, if there isn’t some way to earn credits that can then be used to purchase things from the store. Then this game isn’t going to be viable for me to keep playing…
As it is, a 5,000 CR pack is $75 for me. Sure I could get two premium battle passes for that. IF I don’t buy anything else from the store! Also, IF they dropped only TWO battle passes a year, that’s easily $150 a year on one game! That’s just not viable in the long-term. I’m extremely disappointed that 343 went in this direction. Hopefully they listen to community feedback and we can find a more viable long-term solution. Especially if this is supposed to be a 10 year game!
There is a middle ground that can please most. Not everyone. This is the internet. But I think there is a level of monetisation that can strike a balance.
I do not think we should be given everything in a free to play model. It would be nice but all of these things cost time and money to develop. You have to pay the piper somewhere.
However being overly greedy with cosmetics and microtransactions can be very harmful to a F2P market too. Yes the developers can charge whatever they want in their game but if everyone feels that everything is set up to squeeze as much money as possible from them and items are priced too expensively, they will probably not stick around long. They will not have a very trusting or friendly relationship with the people in charge.
It is good that we are only talking about cosmetics here. That immediately avoids the pay-to-win pitfall that many F2P games stumble into. You can wear the default armour for the entire lifetime of the game and never suffer a competitive disadvantage.
That said, I think a little bit of generosity goes a long way. The best f2p games I have ever played never made it feel like you had to pay to get the items or cosmetics you wanted. It was a fast option to get them, but you could unlock them through gameplay and trading with a little patience. It felt like a reward for sticking with the game and providing content in the form of allies or opponents for the players who did put money into the game.
I would cite early DOTA2 as one of the best models. It was all cosmetic, you could potentially get a free drop from every match you played and you had the choice to trade them or buy them in the shop. The current DOTA2 doesn’t use this model and feels far more greedy because of it. Did I mention that I don’t play Dota anymore?
I also think 343’s pricing may be a little skewed partly because they are basing their models on MCC and the beta, two cases where the cosmetics and season passes are free. The second you charge money for these things, people are going to behave very differently and their perspective shifts drastically. The dedicated player who grinds out a free pass may not even touch a paid season pass on principle, where your data may have told you that player would buy it all.
In summary, I think a reasonable balance can be struck that allows both developers and players to feel that they got a fair deal, rather than both parties feeling like they have to con the other side out of as much as possible.
I think people are being dramatic. I’ve now spent $20 on Halo in the last 6 years. $10 for the Voices of War pack in H5, and now $10 for a battle pass that I’m going to keep until Infinite isn’t playable anymore.
Like, what are we complaining about here people? Spend like 40 seconds putting your spending and timelines into perspective for goodness sakes
I think the fracture event will give people free armour (hopefully).
I bought the battle pass for £7.99 because the game was free and I will likely spend a lot of time playing it. Happy to do that as I think it’s only fair.
Funny. You more or less described H5 (minus the loot boxes). Sure H5’s RNG was annoying and predatory, but you could unlock everything with regular play. Boosts were given regularly, and you could even sell REQs for more points. EXP was awarded based on skill (to an extent) and there were modes (Warzone FF) that offered much more EXP per time spent compared to Arena. And you never had to change the way you wanted to play.
Halo has such cool armor and art, and to see it go to waste like this is a crying shame.
I guess I was mistaken but I could’ve sworn they said the first season was free, I took that to mean the premium pass to be free, not just the usual free tier level as surely every season there will be a free tier, so why point out the first season as being “free”?
Don’t you just love that word “technically”?
Warzone was the most egregious part of it, because buying more REQs could give you an advantage, but honestly I find loot boxes boring. And most of the cosmetics felt like padding. Only being able to customise helmets and armour was way too limiting.
It has been depressing because I feel that they perfected the armoury system with Reach and have spent their time since then trying to deliberately engineer worse systems.
What gets me is that if you want to actually customize your spartan in any significant way, you will likely have to put in well over 60+ hours. The lack of base armor, helmets, and the ability to just color your spartan goes completely against the whole “building identity” thing they talked about when they introduced the customization system. I have to use a color scheme I don’t even like and there isn’t a single one available in the store or battlepass that matches what I have used for 15 years.
