What Happened to Unlocking Everything for Free?

Except we can’t earn armour we want because it’s blocked by some stupid premium battle pass. I could have tolerated it if they had some kind of credit system where we could earn it like with MCC but there’s nothing.

I don’t recall hearing that everything would be free, but do remember hearing that most items would be free to unlock. Of course, time to unlock is a separate matter.

Technically most of us here paid $60-$80 for a full AAA game already. we shouldn’t have to spend more money on said AAA games multiplayer component. The premium content should be earnable for those who bought the full game. If you want the full halo infinite game, you gotta pay that AAA price.

The unfortunate thing with that is it isn’t true, multiplayer is completely separate from campaign now and is it’s own stand alone deal, probably why they’re even doing the F2P model anyways for multiplayer to money gouge people.

I would feel bad for anyone spending $60 on the campaign, then a potential 100+ on all the battle passes infinites multiplayer will potentially have. That’s not even including buying progression if one goes that route, or buying specific armor sets for $20 or a $13 emblem lmfao. The game has the worst battle pass setup I’ve ever seen so far.

To be fair many on the forums have stated for months that best kit will be pay walled. Especially after the coating reveal. This is no surprise, and no I don’t support or condone it.

It’s a thought-out business model:

Tales of a “free” game entice players. Lots of flash, little substance. Stagnant progression induces frustration for very little real reward. Frustrated players are more likely to buy content.

Freemium games like War Thunder and World of Tanks work on this model. And I’m not trying to be too good for this world; I like World of Tanks a ton and spend money on it.

But not Halo, not like this. Halo shouldn’t be freemium or live service. It can be better than that. But nope, gotta rake in those sweet dollars.

The thing is, there is almost nothing unlockable that you dont have to pay for. It’s almost exclusively a challenge swap here and there.

The problem is, Halo has almost always had armor customization to a huge extent. Anything hallo 3 and on has had customization. Now all you get to do is pay 10 dollars every month and hope you can level up faster. There is nothing to work towards when playing. It is a huge part of halo that 343 just threw down a hole and left it to die.

I remember the good old days when FTP was the acronym for File Transfer Protocol.

I remember doing FTP (File Transfer Protocol) through DOS before there were decent programs (and I upgraded to Windows 95).

Free to Play meant you copied the floppy disk, the big 5-1/4” one that was actually floppy, from a friend.

I also remember the days of gaming where it was a hobby, not a chore.

Really? That Halo 5 stuff all over again?

FR they treat this like it’s a job. Reach cosmetics system and ranks would go a long way to making this an enjoyable experience.

I hope pricing is adjusted before launch. BP price is perfect, but individual cosmetics should be halved. $20 for armor or $9 for emblems is nuts.
If they at least implemented progression that gives credits to the player over matches.

They never said everything would be free, they said a lot of it would be, which made me suspicious from the beginning. But quite frankly, this is way worse than I thought, literally 50% of the content is locked behind a paywall, I mean this is ridiculous. I said from the beginning that Infinite multiplayer should’ve never been F2P, its just an excuse to monetize everything and that is exactly what is happening. 343 continues to destroy the franchise.

The preferred term is “offsite backup.”

Good times. I still have my collection of 5 1/4” disks and yes even data cassettes, although I have yet to figure out where to plug the tape player into my Xbox.

I’m sure I’ll have fun with Infinite, but it sounds like I won’t be very stylish doing it.

welcome to the new world of gaming, where giving you the color white is cost 20$

This is arguably WORSE than Halo 5’s model. At least in H5 you could unlock stuff at a decent pace through just gameplay.

Its definitely worse

I’m currently reserving my thoughts beyond progression speed. I would imagine the “base set” of armor, colors and extra bits could be unlocked via campaign. I think this situation is one of the main reasons why 343 didn’t want to launch half of the game early. They delayed by a year AND cut content and are still considerably behind when it comes to a full game launch BUT have shown us they do listen and are prioritizing fixes as best they can given the situation. I have faith they will find the right balance in the near future.
