What happened to this?

Ok I’ve been bothered by this since the game came out and I expected major outcry from fans when the game came out about this but there was none, at least not that I noticed, I’m talking about the Master Chief’s armor change of course, I remember there was some outcry when the first trailer came out but I also remember Frank O’Connor reassuring fans and stating clearly that there would be a clear explanation for this in-game as part of the story but all we got was the line “I took the time to update your suits firmware” from Cortana and that was it! I’m also really bothered with the intro to the game when someone is interviewing Dr. Halsey and she goes on to say that her program saved humanity and all that… it goes to a scene where six Spartans land to fight some elites, given the context, this is supposed to be early in the war right? Yet all six Spartans land with Master Chief’s armor, they should be landing with Mark V armor! but ok let’s say it was long into the war and this was one of the few remaining Spartan II squads to receive Mark VI, still they have Master Chief’s heavily modified armor that was supposedly upgraded and which was also supposed to have an explanation for this “upgrade”. This just came off as lazy from 343 Industries, there is no other explanation.

So I want to hear your thoughts and opinions.

Agreed 100%

There is no explanation, it just is. I don’t like that his armor was changed with “nano-technology” B.S., and their opening made no sense either so I agree with OP. But at this point it’s a creative difference, 343 doesn’t give a crap about continuity.

That Flashback ain’t canon.

Also, it was stated prior to the release (also hinted at it in “Glasslands”) that MC’s armor was able to be, and was, upgraded by nanobots while onboard the FuD.

The retconed appearance for the Mark VI is as it appears in War Games.

The flashback only exists to help players new to the game and players who don’t look at the extended canon understand what is going on

the nano technology is backed up in the glasslands book with Naomi’s armor

Nanobots in movies, games, and books have been one of my personal pet peeves for years now. It always seems lazy when writers use Nanobots whenever they want something inexplicably magical to happen in their science fiction story.
