What happened to the Watchdog coating? (I know there are other posts, but these are my thoughts.)

Look, I know there are already plenty of posts about the coating, and I know 343 probably couldn’t care less about the small amount of players who did the work to reach 152, but they could have at least tried. Because what they gave us was an insult. A mockery of us, if you will.

I believe that the players who have reached 152 are among the most dedicated players out there, myself being one of them. That’s why I know just how much you had to give to earn the right to that rank in Halo 5 and the coating in infinite.

But I have many problems with the way they handled the coating. For one, it looked aluminum in the prelims. Clean, shiny, a symbol of status to those who did what so few even attempted. But in game? It’s a joke. They clearly changed it because the weapon skins have that aluminum coating instead of the darker, weathered steel one. So I have to ask, what happened? Who decided to turn Watchdog into a disgrace to the people who wear it? It had the chance to set us apart, but instead 343 decided to make us blend in. I’m very, very proud of the work I put in to reach Max rank in Halo 5, and I am disgusted that 343 decided to change the coating WITHOUT EVEN TELLING THOSE OF US WHO EARNED IT THAT THEY WERE DOING SO.

That. That is what makes me the angriest. They promised us something special, then changed it and didn’t even have the decency to apologize and tell us that it wouldn’t be the same as we were expecting it to be. So why didn’t they change the weapon skins? Huh? Infinite has had so many problems since it’s launch, and part of me just knows that they’ll never care enough about half the issues to really do a single thing about them, even if it was the easiest thing in the world. And given how hard they condemned Halo 5, why would they care about fixing the coating for the people who really loved the game, right?

Feel free to say what you will, feel free to defend 343 or condemn them too, but just know that I will not listen if you are here to tell me I am wrong. I am bitter, I am angry, and I am one of the few who earned an incredibly exclusive and hard to obtain item, just for it to be nothing like it was advertised. I will forever cherish the accomplishment of reaching SR 152, but I cannot support the way they’ve recognized us in Infinite. It’s time for the apologies about all the problems plaguing their game which is all about “returning to form” to stop and the attempts to show us that they’re really listening to begin, and fixing Watchdog would be a great thing to do early on. It’s a small thing, but we will notice. It’s like I said. We’re dedicated, but we want to know that we’re appreciated too. And until I start feeling appreciated, I cannot stay silent. I will be posting more on other matters I have problems with in future posts, but for now, Watchdog is what I’m fighting for, because it deserves to be recognized as much as the SR 152’s who wear it do.

Probably some angry dev who couldn’t reach 152 is behind all this. Nah but in all seriousness I see what they tried doing with the watchdog coating. I can tell they were going for some type of battle-worn style but it didn’t come out as expected. It just makes it looks like junkyard car parts. I’m sure they got the memo that we want the watchdog coating to be shiny/chrome. I’m hoping they include fixing the coating in the upcoming update. Supposedly 343 is doing a complete overhaul on Infinite. Level progression and all that good stuff which I’m lowkey hyped for. Besides the coating being fixed, all I really want is military ranks like in Halo 3/Reach to make a comeback to the franchise. That 5-Star general badge will forever be iconic. Not only did it look rewarding, it felt it too.

I’m 152 in H5. I didn’t even get the WD coating and I’m not going to go to the bother of submitting a ticket to get it.

Been advocating for 343 to fix it.
And I’m not even playing infinite.
I wrote before that if it will take them 4 months to fix two misaligned skins that were just released, they’re probably not fixing watchdog.

The priorities are reversed.
Fix the skin, you promised and showed it off.
Then fix the stuff in the store that is messed up.
But it’s all money.
Reality is it shouldn’t have happened in the first place, and now you’ve annoyed 2500 of the most hardcore halo 5 players
