I am rather curious as to what happened to the ODST units in Halo 4. Did NavSpecWep just replace them with S-IV’s, or what?
I don’t think ODST’s were really necessary on the Infinity, due to the high amount of S-IV’s on it. Maybe that’s why they weren’t in Halo 4.
I don’t think they were scrapped though, I’m sure not all ODST’s volunteered to become Spartans, or even if some made the cut.
To me, ODST’s still provide the middle-ground that exist between a Spartan and a run-of-the-mill Marine.
Or, possibly, they’ve been revamped in a way that may be revealed in Halo 5, or, maybe even in ODST 2.
That’s hugely speculative on my part, however.

You’ll have to wait until after Halo 6 comes out to see Halo 6: ODST 2 release followed not too long later by Halo: Harvest.
Then we’ll see Halo 7 premiere the year before the Xbox 1080 comes out.

It would be nice if 343 decided to, ya know, actually let us know whether or not they still exist.
The way I see it, its probably the same way we have our military set with Special Forces groups throughout the branches and the “Tiers” they are in.

This right here? This would be the best side project ever.
ODST’s should still have their place. They’re still the best of the SIV washouts and a lot better than those that don’t even qualify to qualify amongst the Army, Navy and Air Force that the ODST’s already pull from.
As we’ve seen in S.OPS, when the “normals” are throwing themselves against a wall, send in the Spartans. ODST’s are the last effort before it qualifies as S-class.

I got three words for that: HOT, HOT, HOT!

Not important to 343 just like Elites and pretty much everything cool and awesome in the Halo universe!
The only UNSC ship that deploys forces in h4 is infinity, which has S-IV’s as its special forces. S-IV’s are also likely picked largely from ODST’s, its not like highly fit/capable soldiers just spring out of nowhere.
Shoving everything into a game just cause it’d be cool doesn’t necessarily make a cool game.
