What happened to the ODST?

So ive been searching all over and havnt been able to find any relevant information. SO I was wondering if anyone knew why ODSTs were chosen to not be in halo 4 and if there are plans to bring ODSTs back in halo 5/6? Or if anybody can provide any information regarding the whole ODST situation that’d be great!

I guess they decided to take them out because it was un cod like

Well it doesn’t make sence to me. Okay let’s say the ODSTs became irrelevant because of the New Spartan program (Logical, makes sense why they wouldnt be on infinity). But at least having a multiplayer armor even as an Easter Egg would be nice.

This is just speculation, but did some of the ODSTs become S-IV?

Same thing that happened to the falcon and a two handed flag…

I was wondering this too, but I figured that canonically, the majority of them became Spartans or just became obsolete.

But yeah, having a proper ODST helmet or some Easter eggs would be nice. Maybe an emblem?

I think it’s generally and widely speculated that they were replaced with the now mainstream Spartan 4’s.

As with other people in this thread, I think a majority of them would’ve become Spartan 4’s. Hopefully they drop into Halo 5/6.

That’s actually an interesting element of the Halo franchise as the history of Halo presses on. I’m hoping to explore that in the Halo novel I’m writing.

It sorta makes sense, ODST turn into the better Spartan. Though I still miss them.

They could of still used drop pods that the odst used, like the elites still used them.

I still don’t think all of the ODSTs would get to become Spartan-IVs. That said, I think the rationale is that the army of Marines and Spartan-IVs on the Infinity is more than enough and the IVs could at least perform the roles of the ODSTs.

Still, I wouldn’t mind seeing the ODSTs again.

When I first got my Xbox 360 halo 3 ODST had just came out and I got it like must of you guy/gals and I loved it. And about 5 weeks later I got Xbox live and I was so happy and when reach came out I only had the ODST armor I never used any other armor when halo 4 came at I was so sad to see the the armor was not there then I play the campaign and was like Wtf

Recruit and Air Assault are close to the ODST helmet at least.

IDK if it’s just me…but the recriut helmet and odst helmet have a few similarities…maybe since it was common helmet they just made it the recruit helmet…albiet with some changes

Thanks but I have already found this

My guess (like that of many before me) is that they’re not present due to the Spartan contingent in the Infinity playing a similar role. It could also be that the Spartan-IV program’s the same as Project ORION, taking adult volunteers. Take Palmer as an example: she was a Marine who volunteered to the program, so it wouldn’t surprise me to see ODSTs such as Edward Buck as Spartan-IVs in the future.

The issue with this is that the infinity is stocked full of cookie cutter marines. And ODSTs are far superior to marines.

I guess, at least for this game, ODST’s were replaced by Spartan 4’s. however, I still believe ODST’s are plentiful elsewhere. Keep in mind that the only Human forces on Requiem are from the Infinity, a ship built to house and train Spartan 4’s. I believe that ODST’s are still around and kicking Covenant -Yoink- in other systems, just not Requiem.
I hope they show up in Halo 5, a small conflict between members of an ODST squad, some who stayed and some who went to the Spartan 4 program would be intresting to explore I think.

I think what happened was that most of the ODSTs became Spartans IVs because the project was to train the best soldiers the U.N.S.C had to offer so there armour sets would have to reflect there specialization so it would explain slightly why there is no ODST armour set in the vanilla Halo 4. What I think they could of done though is probably improve the original set for the Spartan IVs, say more armour mayby. I am disappointed that they where not in Halo 4 because the ODSTs where my favorite unit in the halo universe.
