what happened to the ODST branch after 3?

I havent seen any ODST in anything after 3, they just stopped existing, i mean we still have buck tough.

They are still around. Halo New Blood details missions Alpha-Nine (Buck, Romeo, Dutch, Micky, and Rookie) went on after Halo 3. Infinity is supposed to have a a large contingent of ODSTs aboard. And in one of the Infinite teasers, a projection map Chief looks at shows ODST logos before they are turned red and presumed to be wiped out.

well not sure hopefully this gets answered in infinite in someway but all i can tell you is that all of alpha nine except veronica and the rookie (because he unfortunately passed on a mission against rebel forces) are now spartans and are back together, including mickey.

ODSTs still exist and arent defunct. They still serve as the special forces of the UNSC, whilst Spartans typically take on highest priority missions, ODSTs and Marines will still assist them but ODSTs will get higher priority missions than Marines usually do.

Regardless all UNSC forces work in tandem with each other and most new Spartans are pullved from Marine/ODST ranks.

The Spartan IV program didnt make ODSTs defunct nor did they stop being useful to the UNSC.

TL;DR: ODSTs arent gone. They’re just not seen in the more critical operations and missions Spartans usually go on (with exceptions)

Pretty sure they’re still around, we just don’t see them as often because Spartans take on most of the high priority missions.

i see how that work, seeing the expansion in the spartan programs after the human covenant war

Sovereign4513 is correct. Although the process of making Spartans has improved and the Spartan Branch has greatly expanded, they are still expensive. ODSTs are still cost effective because they are quicker to train and easier to logistically support than Spartans. ODSTs don’t require the medical maintenance “tune ups” that Spartan IVs periodically require. ODST armor is also way easier to maintain and cheaper to replace than Mjolnir armor. I wouldn’t be surprised if there weren’t more than 5,000 Spartans versus the multiple divisions (~8,000 per division) of ODSTs.

and where did the ODSTs from halo wars 2 come from? xd

the Spirit of Fire had ODST stationed in cryo-sleep during its 30 year voyage between HW1 and HW2

Yeah it was actually Jun from reach who recruited them into the spartan program too, its all in the books

They are in the books

Stilling kicking around and on missions.

More proof for the continued existence of the ODSTs is in H5’s description of the Soldier chest Mjolnir set saying that it was being incorporated into ODST’s armor.
