I played the original Halo trilogy for a long time, and I really liked the Flood. However, I do not remember if they were wiped out completely or not at the end of Halo 3. Also, what happened to the Gravemind in Halo 2? I don’t remember seeing it die. Can someone please help me out?
The active Flood in our galaxy was destroyed when the Halo fired over the Ark as the Gravemind pooled all of it’s forces into one massive attack on the combined Human, Elite and Covenant forces on the Ark… The Gravemind’s previous physical form on Delta Halo (along with Delta Halo’s entire surface) was sterilized by the Elites, along with vessels the Flood had managed to capture during the infestation of High Charity.
The only active Flood that we know about right now is the infection form scampering around the Spirit of Fire.
Frankly I hope we don’t see the Flood again. I found them to be a boring enemy to fight gameplay wise, and their lore has been twisted into something laughable instead of mysterious. Much like most of the Halo lore has been under 343i’s ownership.
The Flood were neutralized after the ending of Halo 3.
but since Lore says they always come back even stronger than before,I bet we are going to see them again soon enough…
All active flood activity has thus far been neutralised. Any flood left has been contained
Take my word for it: the Flood will never return, at least not until after Chief dies in Halo 6. 343 has been narrowing the universe to be more generic so as to appeal to younger audiences so that their Megablox products can be more easily sold. The Flood is too gory as it is, therefore it cannot be in the games if 343 wants to keep the T rating. The Flood might be in Halo Wars 2, but will probably appear and then be anticlimactically killed off in game.
I WANT the Flood to return, but all I can say is it’s been over 8 years since they were last in a Halo game. There is a very small likelihood they’re ever coming back like they used to be. I’ve got my hopes up numerous times (Halo 4 and Halo 5 included) and was horribly disappointed.

The Flood is a very important part in the whole Halo storyline.
They were seen in the novels, comics, animes and games.
The flood has appeared since Halo CE,and became a classic enemy
Not to mention Lore says they always evolve to survive, and always come back stronger than before.that’s what makes them basically unbeatable.
The Halo 5 legendary ending shows a Halo Array, where the Flood used to be held captive for studies
So,I wouldn’t be surprised to see them again in Halo 6,or maybe even in a new trilogy focusing on them…

I don’t think all halos contained flood for studies.
However a escalation issue showed a infection form on a possibly abandoned spirit of fire. Although we probably won’t know about that till Halo wars 2
If there was another flood outbreak I believe cortana will be responsible because of the legendary ending of halo 5
It said that Halo Array number 7 could be infected since we have seen the surface of it in Halo 3 in the citadell which Looks , in my opinion, really Flood infected
Let’s be honest fellas the flood will not leave the halo universe so long as the makers of the games stay true to the books. That said we all saw in halo 2 that the grave mind is capable of teleporting things (cheif to highcharity and arbiter to the control room on the halo). With that in mind who’s to say that the gravemind can’t teleport itself. Also if we reference the books we can be damn sure that the gravemind has a failsafe where under any circumstances it will see to it that it survives the same way it did last time. By having a locked room shielded from the halos blast ensuring it’s survival.
So are we not going to see the flood again well that is very likely. After halo 3 highcharity got curb stomped and it seems like they’re done for sure. And with recent events it seems that 343 has decided to keep the flood outta the picture. That’s my two cents.
I gotta say that the flood was a pain and I think that really added an interesting quality to the game. It’s not that they are easy or difficult to defeat but it is that fighting multiple enemies that are in turn fighting themselves is super fun. Really makes you feel like you’re in a more random combat environment.
If we add the original humans vs covenant vs flood to the newly acquainted humans and sanghelios freedom fighters along with the forunners forces there could be somthing to come of that. Fighting would definitely require a bubble shield.
To my understanding, canonically, the halo rings weren’t meant to devastate everything it touched… just sentient life, or large enough organic beings that could be converted into biomass. It was said the rings couldn’t destroy the flood, just their food source to starve them into remission. Following this line of logic one would think that the flood would still be alive in that area of space w/ access to vehicles capable of interstellar flight left over from covenant forces due to the halo pulse targeting organic beings, and not artificial constructs (how else would the monitors have survived the first pulse of the forerunners). Technically the flood should still be alive and a viable threat as it’s just a hop, skip, and a jump to a nearby area the incomplete halo structure couldn’t reach with it’s pulse to find food and thrive once more.
granted it was never established, as far as I know, whether or not the incomplete halo had the full capabilities of a finished halo installation.
